ok, so I got an email invite for the open beta and I follow the link which takes me to the battlelog site where I log in with my EA account and it tells me: Your account is not allowed to log in....well, so much about "OPEN". Then I say, OK, let's just download the client while EA gets that sorted out:
No, no, no, mister: you live in Austria but Origin decides for your best that you should live in GERMANY where it is not allowed to download any naughty games before 11 in the evening.
WTF

Just installed Origin.
The good: EA actually ASKS you if you want Origin to launch at Windows startup (no, of course not). Steam just assumes you do and you have to find the option in the settings to disable it. So, in one small respect, it's more user friendly.
The bad: Instead of uploading my own avatar, I choose from a list of avatars from EA games. Seriously, guys? This isn't a fan forum. Also, none of "The Sims" avatars are actually from the Sims. Huh.
Also: I expected the download to be slow from the rush of people going for the open beta, but it's actually going at 2.5 megabytes/sec, so good for them.
Edit: "We're sorry, an error has occurred. We're unable to connect to EA servers to activate Battlefield 3 Open Beta at this time. Please try again later." Well, that was fun.

On. The game seems to randomly assign race (maybe to try and combat racism, I dunno) so I am permanently black. Which is cool by mean, but I am sure there will be much whining. I really hope this gets picked up by Fox News :D

You can only change settings when you're alive during a match. what the fuck
Aerothorn on 30/9/2011 at 02:22
Presumably in the base game you can start your own empty server and do that (unless EA has taken away that option?) but it's still really stupid. I went to an empty beta server, but it filled up real quick.

yep, nothing changed from the alpha.
- you still have no real ingame menue
- you still have to be spawned if you want any options
- if you die while in options they go away
- if you apply changes in options the game jumps back into windowed
- the game still does not detect any mousebuttons besides 1+2
- you can still clip underground while proned and then shoot enemies from below
- the "game manager"/battlelog/origin TRIPLE background cancer still hogs down your system without the game even running
horrible. game itself: see bf bc2

Hmm, you guys don't seem to be as angry as before. Could it be.... YOU ARE ENJOYING THE GAME??

I've got that bug where clicking on "Ready to install" doesn't do anything. Seems like it's a fairly common thing, but I haven't found a solution yet.
