For what its worth, Shadowcat, I really enjoy you posts on smaller quirky games that don't get the attention they deserve. I prefer quirky games over bland AAA titles any day.
Ignore the kids, they think they're too cool for school. They only watch blockbuster movies because the sales figures prove that those are the good ones.

I never really got into the sidescrolling battle type games. The long stream of baddies, the purely battle based gameplay, little story (if any). What I can garner from the reviews is that this variant basically adds a lot of RPG based micro-management to the situation, everyone seems very enthusiastic about this added layer but I can't help but wonder how much fun it'll be in the long run.
Sadly if a game is based only on fun gameplay, if there is no story or main task driving the game forward, the game always ends up running out of steam. And that steamless situation ends up being the lasting impression it leaves me, regardless of the fun it started out with. So now I'm weary of it, games with an almost guaranteed weak ending aren't that appealing.
EDIT EDIT:
Then I stumble upon the '30+ level campaign, complete with epic boss battles!' remark on its itunes page. So this one does have an actual ending..

It's kind of a huge damn shame this thread devolved into Youtube comment quality bullshit so damn fast. Why? Because when I look at the tablets, I see the perfect opportunity for developers, from the big companies all the way down to the indies, to make all those oldschool style games we used to know and love.
Want a dungeon crawler like Eye of the Beholder with a touch screen interface? That'd be perfect. What about Lemmings? That'd fit like a glove. Overhead 2D RPG with beautiful sprite based graphics like Ultima VII? Wow, that'd be great. The iPad and its ilk are a frontier platform, perfect for experimentation with genres old and new. They've got enough power to make great games, but not so much that some big ass publisher with alot of money to burn can concentrate solely on cutting edge realtime graphics in lieu of gameplay. I'm surprised more people here aren't interested in at least the potential of the tablets can offer.
Also Koki's an idiot. The sooner you realize that, the better off you'll be.
