addink's definitely not the only one who would like to see a lot more common courtesy from dethtoll (and yes, others too, but -- as mentioned -- the more you post, the more you personally will affect the atmosphere of the forum, and so the more likely people are to single you out).
addink's request is remarkably reasonable:
Quote:
I'm asking him to be respectful, to be clear, to explain and elaborate his position, to try to engage in the actual discussion.
Seriously dethtoll... do you truthfully believe that this is an onerous, unfair, or unreasonable thing to be asked to do as a member of a
community?
All that is, is common courtesy; something which we should
all have in mind whenever we post here (or pretty much anywhere else, for that matter). Exceptions to that should
be exceptional; not commonplace.
Perhaps you don't want to publicly back down on this, or perhaps you genuinely feel unfairly set-upon here. Fine. But come back later and re-read that request in isolation and try to tell yourself that it's asking too much.
You obviously don't like it when people jump on the anti-dethtoll bandwagon, but I'm telling you that it doesn't happen for no reason, and
you can stop it from happening, simply by making some small adjustments to how you participate here, for the benefit of everyone.

Sheesh, if I'd know the thread was going to derail this catastrophically, I wouldn't have bothered bitching about the non-descriptive title. It certainly doesn't describe the thread now.

What do you mean? The last two pages have been a battle for a heart. Dethtoll's heart.
And I'm reading it on an iPad!

Bought Battleheart during the weekend sale.
Though purely battle based games are usually not my type of game, I do find myself coming back to this a lot. The graphic design itself is basic, but the animations are excellent and full of detail, really bringing everything to life and giving our wide-eyed heroes an irresistible charm.
I haven't gotten far yet, but already I've encountered a wide variety of AI behaviors and special powers. Which is promising.
Not everything is perfect though. In certain situations I do have difficulty selecting the right character during combat:
The melee type heroes automatically adjust their position to attack. Sadly, quite often I find the melee type moving right in front of other characters just as I'm trying to give an order.
It could be this is only a problem on the smaller iPhone screen (no iPad for me yet). Or it could be I just haven't figured out the right way to avoid this. Generally in RPG group based battles it is a wise tactic to keeping the non-melee characters far from the action. However in this game the enemies' AI always goes for the closest and strongest warrior. So it seems wise to keep the weaker cleric type close to the stronger melee fighters...
Anyway, it's good fun.

It happens on the iPad but very rarely, they have to basically be perfectly on top of eachother to not be able to select one or the other, also when you are selecting if you hover you'll see which character is being selected by the highlight.
Protips:
Gear your knight type char for tanking, and use Braveheart (later skill) to get all agros on him. Give him tanking equips, such as mine is wearing 2 +10% to heal bonus amulets. I use a rogue that focuses on crit rate and attack speed since he never has to tank damage, and as a rogue he naturally goes to the back of the enemy. He also has a couple really crippling skills such as the poison knife (completely neutralizes target for 8 seconds, no matter how big they are), and the armor break skill that makes them 20% more vulnerable or something like that. I put my healer right in the middle of the screen, all the way to the back wall, because mobs only ever come from the right or left, that way shes out of harms way and able to do what shes got to do. I keep my mage near her or right in the middle of all the action so as to not attract attention to the healer if he fires on someone and they agro him. Once you get the firewall and firebolt skills you got some good DPS ability but the blizzard skill is still really important for neutralizing flash mobs.
My setup so far works pretty well however despite all buffs and everything in order, if theres more than 2 slimes on my knight (+ some ogres) he just cant tank the damage. Maybe with more levels and high hp/def.
Btw my arena runs have been pathetic for some reason, I die to less stressful mobs than I do during the actual quest, probably just from the stress of the consistent changing mob, but my score so far is 65.
The rogue does most of the damage because of his high rate of attack and high crit rate, and since he attacks from behind he's pretty much my main dsp output, I focus on rounding up the enemies onto to the tank, neutralizing enemy mobs with mage's AoE spells, using his more powerful direct spells against stronger apponents, and using my rogue to finish off the mobs my tank is ehm tanking. Also when you have enemy witch guys whatever they're called that heal enemy units, focus on them first, I get my mage and my rogue on them while my knight handles the mob etc, easy tactics. This was a pretty simple tactic to get used to because that pretty much defines the tactics used in RO.
The bard looks awesome, but I have not played with him yet...

I dont feel like starting another thread so I'm just posting this here:
I played with a Motorola Xoom on my way home from work today at Best Buy.
Let me copy paste what I wrote about it on FB:
Xoom > iPad. The iPad 2 however, might be able to overcome the shortcomings that put the Xoom ahead, but right now, as is, the Xoom is way ahead. The Xoom works convincingly as a laptop replacement, where as the iPad is really just an intuiative, large iPod. That is to say, instead of just a collection of apps (no matter how interconnected), the Xoom feels like an operating system. It's also faster, which is plainly obvious in even the least graphics intensive games such as Angry Birds. It has smooth scaling unlike previous iPad immitators (a big gripe of mine), and it supports full OpenGL games like the online space shooter MMO Vendetta Online.
The BestBuy wifi was too slow, but I've no doubt Minecraft would run on it without too much tinkering either. The dual cameras are great, and the keyboards are better than the iPad, especially with swipe.
Also the size, its longer (talking about length-wise here) than the iPad which makes it feel more natural as a widescreen product, and is skinnier when in portrait mode, which makes it easier to type. And again, the keyboards are superior.
The multitasking also acts more like a regular OS than Apple's hold-down-home-key system.
I thought the Xoom would fail, I really did, but the 15 minutes I spent playing with it showed me how it's superior to the iPad in almost every aspect. The only draw back I see is that the iPad app store is huge, but no doubt with a SLEW of Android based tablets out there, there will be a flood of Android apps. Its ability to run flash and javascript also make it much more capable than the iPad.
Yeh, you heard it straight from the horses mouth, straight from the iPad loving hippy. The Xoom won.
It has usb and hdmi outputs but they're all mini so you need special cables, which isnt a huge problem, in fact it makes sense, but still just thought I'd mention it.
I also forgot to mention that the widgets and the screen transitions are badass, it feels very hightech. Very high-tech-fancy. You'll just have to see it to understand.

My only complaint with the Xoom is the price. Slick as it is, $800 is a little steep for what you're ultimately getting. The $600 Wifi only rev is much easier to stomach, since it's about the price I'd expect from the hardware, and I could give less than half a damn about 3G/4G. But with them being stuck up Verizons ass at the moment, I doubt it'll happen anytime soon.

I can't vouch for the iPad version, but I know I've made a solid purchase on my phone when my wife bangs on the bathroom door and says, "What are you doing in there?!" Get it, I think it's still 99 cents.
