I dunno, mechs seem pretty gender neutral to me. (Except for Zone of the Enders, which for some reason has the pilot cockpit in the mech's crotch. Yeah, I don't know either. Ask Kojima.)

They're using gender neutral pro-nouns in this game and when you try to give them feedback on the game's Steam forum about it they ban you. I don't give a shit about any identity politics in the game, fuck off with censoring people with opposing viewpoint though.
WOW. I did not believe it when you posted this, so I went and created a topic over on the Steam forum and had my topic removed within 2 minutes and was warned "Violation of community guidelines for trolling."
How the fuck is that trolling. I'm someone who backed the game and have a question about the design decision.
Sulphur on 24/4/2018 at 05:08
If your question is 'why did you include a neutral gender option?', that pretty much is trolling. J'applaudis.
icemann on 24/4/2018 at 05:13
Explain that to me as I don't get it.
Sulphur on 24/4/2018 at 05:21
Think of it this way: they included it as an option. You can ignore it. Asking 'why did you do this' is a) opening the floodgates for drama they've already dealt with because have you SEEN the lunatic brigade on the Steam forums, and b) makes the people seeing you ask the question want to know why you're asking the question in the first place. It's a lose-lose situation. I'm already re-evaluating exactly how inclusive you seem to be, for instance.
Pyrian on 24/4/2018 at 05:31
In all seriousness, icemann, it is a fundamentally ridiculous complaint. Would you complain that a game has an inverse mouse option that you don't like to use?
Apparently you didn't get banned, so the original claim is indeed falsified as expected. I imagine they're currently a bit trigger happy from inundation of all you social injustice warriors.
icemann on 24/4/2018 at 05:33
I was not aware of past floodgates of drama on Steam due to it.
Personally I see it as political correctness gone mad. I went and asked the question over there partially due to the earlier post above, and because I've not seen that in a video game before. So it seemed like an odd thing to have in a game. Mass Effect did not have gender neutrality for example. And that game was very accommodating of many peoples choices.
[edit]
Tried asking about this topic over on the KS comments thread and got pounced on. People are quite prone to exploding on this topic it seems.

I'm not sure why including the option for an 'other' gender is somehow political correctness gone mad - it's not squashing anyone's rights, it's not actively shutting anyone down, it's actually doing the reverse. If you don't want to play as gender neutral, don't. The game's not forcing you to. The dev's merely being more open while also doing it in a way that the game remains the same; that's admirable from any angle, so having a problem here seems like pettiness for the sake of it, or something far worse.
Like Pyrian said, if a game gives you an inverted mouse option you choose not to use, it's not something you'd complain about. So why complain?
icemann on 24/4/2018 at 05:53
There is a big difference between asking and having a problem with something. I was merely asking. But why would I be asking I hear you reply, to which I say "Just to know why" and that is all.
If Harebrained Schemes replied and said "To be inclusive of all of our audience in today's continually evolving world", that'd be enough for me. I'm not out to argue anyone on the issue, just wanted to know why it was in.

That's pretty much it. No fuss. No muss.
This isn't a slight against you exactly, but asking a somewhat loaded question you already know the answer to in a situation where everyone involved are happily broaching the topic with hairtrigger tempers is kinda asking for trouble. Fortunately, level heads prevailed here, but I imagine were this to happen elsewhere, it'd lead to the usual internet culture war shitstorm.
