The current version has 6 environments and 5 cars(with different configurations). The guys behind this game are ex-Rigs Of Rods dudes and it seems they've brought a lot of the ROR-modding community with them. Already some quality fan-made-content is starting to show up, most notably (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWVhpglIkAM) this beautiful '49 Cadillac and the Peak Island map. The devs are going to add AI drivers/racers, demolition derbys, cop-chases, delivery-missions, and more. But I'm even more psyched to see what the modders will come up with. Personally I'm hoping someone takes it upon themselves to recreate 1970's Chicago and the Blues Brothers' Bluesmobile. :D
I bought the alpha yesterday and I've gotten in a good deal of rallying around Dry Rock Island since. The physics are... well, they're the physics of an automobile. It becomes clear right away that this is not a driving game, such much as it is simply a car-simulator. The handling is going to turn a lot of people off, but RBR and racing-sim fans should feel at home. I haven't tried my wheel yet, but it's manageable with a gamepad.

RBR with a damage model that wasn't knocked together the weekend before release could be interesting.

I was hoping you'd chime in, Jason. :) The handling isn't quite as enjoyable as RBR's, it's a bit too wobbly in it's present state, but it's certainly as difficult.

Other than the tires chirping constantly (especially on gravel, wtf) that looks glorious.
