Interestingly enough, Constantine only officially converted on his deathbed. Although he gave preference to Christianity, he continued to honour Sol Invictus and other Pagan deities throughout his reign.

Well most of the empire was still Pagan, and religious tolerance wasn't abolished until Theodosius' reign around 382. Until that time, all the roman senators were Pagans, and so Christian emperors up until Theodosius retained some form of Pagan symbolism, though giving the Church privileges and higher status
