(
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2010/01/05/hevy-metal-half-life-2-gets-upgraded) Someone has gone and ported HL2 to the Orange Box version of Source. And Jesus Christ it looks amazing.
It's sad that someone has to do this and risk legal action just because Valve were too goddamn lazy to do it themselves. Maybe this'll get Valve moving on actually porting it over.

trying to find a torrent is difficult, if one exists. i keep getting pirated versions of HL2.
This is way better than that extreme quality mod, whatever it was called. it was like 7 gb, and I never did get it to work.

I actually find that the "update" looks inferior in some respects. It could be due to this guy doing it on his own of course but I thought faces lacked a certain depth of expressiveness and seemed more plastic, plus certain effects like fire on the zombies and the splitting in two seem more cartoonish in the update and less gritty and grim.

It looks pretty much like HL2 with the brightness turned up.

You're thinking of Fakefactory's awful mod that updates the models in (

It's mentioned on the attendant Steam thread that the expression thing is a known issue and the guy will be working on fixing that in a later version.

Same game, only brighter and more shiny. No thanks.
The intro train platform has the floor shiny and reflecting in the video. That's not the way it should look. Looks like marble, all buffed and waxed

The Orange Box engine update also had some nice new particle effects. I played all three games back to back in 2008 and there was noticeable gap between Episode 1 & 2 in that department, eg when blasting away at the headcrab zombies.
I'd be happy if you could please find a torrent, dethtoll. Depositfile is really fucking slow.

When the 360 version of The Orange Box was released it came with HL2 redone in the Orange Box version of the Source Engine, so it has already been done once. Why it's not out for PC is anyone's guess.

The new effects actually make a difference—the shooting becomes more satisfying when each bullet impact deploys more blood/particles.
