Yeah Bioshock blood is weird. I think it's an Unreal engine 3 thing. Gears of War also had weird blood. It kinda looks black with a red outline, like someone embossed the blood sprite in photoshop with the wrong light settings.

According to a poster in the Steam forums thread on this Gabe has stated that this was always an official plan at some point. Perhaps with Ep3 we'll get a full overhaul of HL2 and the Episodes into the very latest Source build.
