Left 4 Dead was made by (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turtle_Rock_Studios) Turtle Rock Studios. While I am sure that many from Valve's core team worked on Left 4 Dead 2 along with them, I imagine that the Half Life dev group has been plugging away steadily on
something for all this time.
Probably. Although Valve does
sound, a lot of the time, like one of those dream companies from the boom days like Wizards of the Coast et al where a bunch of geeks just sat around smoking cones and goofing off, occasionally making something.
Only they're not going to go broke.I prefer that vision as it makes me all the more envious.

Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?
Airplane city I guess. Whatever. I still stand by the fact that Valve fps games would compete with each other regardless.

Yes, but not in the way you were thinking.

The rumours don't surprise me at all. I've been thinking for a while they were working on a full-fledged sequel rather than another episode. The technology is getting pretty old - it's held up fantastically through the years, but it's time to move on.
Doesn't change the fact that they're absolute assholes for leaving the series off with that Episode 2 cliffhanger.

Its sad, but I've given up on HL3. With the popularity and moneyspinner that L4D franchise has shown it makes financial sense that Valve would focus on that.
Ah well. We'll always have Portal 2.

Don't be ridiculous.
Look at the facts. HL1 was massively popular and critically acclaimed and at one point was the best selling fps ever. Half Life 2 was was massively popular and critically acclaimed and won more game of the year awards than you can count.
There is no way they will abandon this series, and I hope they don't because I frikking love it. Its 6 (SIX!) years later (ok Ep2 was 2007, but still) and people would still be gushing at anything of substance that comes out of Valve.
I for one don't mind waiting if the leap to HL3 will be as big as the leap from 1 to 2.
Wait.
Thats not what you meant was it?
thefonz on 24/1/2010 at 00:49
It's possible i'm being biased because I find the L4D games extremely boring and repetative and cannot understand the appeal.
SubJeff on 24/1/2010 at 00:59
Wait. So you have actually given up on HL3 ever coming out? As in you think it will never see the light of day because Valve are focusing on other things?
I enjoyed L4D for a while but there are other things that I'm into now and I'd much prefer a Portal 2 or a HL3 than another L4D or TF2. MAG for PS3 is coming out soon and that will be my MP FPS fix.
