Personally, I wouldn't buy Thief 4 if it didnt have achievements. Come on, it's 2011, it's like the basic gaming standard these days. Not to include it would be just lazy.

In the first Thief game, there were 13 loading screens.
I think folks are referring to loading screens within the level, not before.

I'm afraid TDP/TMA -style rope arrows can be very difficult to implement since T4 is almost certainly going to have a 3rd person camera option,
Could be, but the automatic 3rd as in IGI (as much as I hate it) could be linked to Rope arrows as it was to ladders etc. in I'm Going In.
Third person and thief is worse than watering good whiskey. Ruins the immersion, subverts the game play by relieving the player of the responsibility to think and be aware of the result of actions they may wish to take.
Is there a guard around that corner? Third will let the player look around corners with no risk and remove much of the tension that made the first batch (TDP/TMA) so attractive.

The other day, I played Lorgan's Web for Thief 1. It was a great mission; revisiting and expanding upon the Ramirez mission from Thief 1. When I say expanding, I mean it! The map is Huge! There is a sewer system now and you can use it to traverse the map. You can also use rooftops. There are tuns of places in the town to break into and countless AIs roaming the map.
I also saw someone playing Ominous Bequest Gold and I was (again) impressed with the size of the world.
If the devs can't achieve these things in Thief 4, that would be very sad.

How about some physical objects that you are able interact with besides crates and scripted switches? DXHR was a disappointment in this respect... felt very rigid and static... and no, rag doll physics for dragging bodies around doesn't count here.
