Aja, Bloody Mess is nice for the damage bonus, but the randomly exploding bodies get old after a while. Plus it can be annoying trying to loot enemies after a large fight since a lot of times there will just be gibbed pieces all over the place.
On a totally unrelated note, the stealth in Fallout 3 is easily the best Bethesda has done so far. Even with 100 sneak and a Stealth Boy you don't have the ridiculous 100 stealth/100 chameleon crouch-invincibility that you had in Morrowind/Oblivion, and with just 100 sneak enemies will see you rather easily if you don't keep to the shadows. I hope they tweak the stealth system for Skyrim so that it works more like FO3 than TES3/4.

Since 2008 is now behind us, I can say that the best game of the year was... Crysis: Warhead. It was a tough choice between Crysis: Warhead, Crysis: Warhead, and... Crysis: Warhead.
Worst game... This one requires more thought. I guess I'll go with Far Cry 2 for the sheer disappointment I felt with the game after the spectacular intro sequence.

Another welcome change?

I don't get how anybody could not like the gameplay in Gears or Halo but praise Half-life 2. C'mon, have you stripped everything that makes HL2 good away (the story, dialogue, puzzles, scripted scenes) and just looked at the combat? It's terrible. Run around and mash the fire button, and then spam the gravity gun. Yawn. At least Gears and Halo make you focus on tactics (if you play on normal then you played a completely different game though, because 99% of the tactics in those two games are lost on normal).
Worst game is Alone in the Dark, hands down. Rented that with a friend and we planned to stay up all night playing through it, but we ended up having a ball over how comically awful that game was.
Best game would have to be GRAND THEFT AUTO IV. Complain all you want but it was still totally fucking awesome. I'll agree that there was still a bit of wasted potential which is what makes some people look at it the way they do, but still, what's there is incredible.
I didn't play Crysis Warhead, though. The original Crysis was SUCH an underappreciated title. Yes it sold a lot of copies, but IMO it's easily one of if not the best FPS ever made.

Well that's exactly how I see these, and I have been playing computer games for more than twenty years, both for pleasure and as part of my occupation. Let's call it a difference of taste and find a better topic for flames, allright?

I do.
But since for you "RPG" means "Inventory Management" I understand how you did not.
