and the pile of flaming, self righteous, psuedo-intellectual asshats that the formerly great TTLG community has become.
About Cliffy B: The man is a great example of what I call "success-induced mental retardation", a phenomenon where formerly skilled developers become self worshipping, idiotic buttwipes. Previous sufferers include Warren Spector and John Carmack.

How does Carmack fall into that category? From what I've seen he still knows his shit and hasn't built himself up all that much.
Or are you referring to the stuff he's said recently regarding the PC versus consoles?

I don't think I've ever read anything by John Carmack where he came off as something other than a genuine programming nerd. Romero was always the rockstar at Id.

The impression I was given during development was that Bethesda now owns the franchise
No, they've only licensed the property to make Fallout 3 and a few sequels. Interplay still own the franchise.

Not that I trust Wikipedia, but this is exactly how I remember the deal happening:

In April 2007 Bethesda Softworks announced that they had purchased the rights to the Fallout franchise for a reported $5.75 million. The deal made Bethesda the sole owner of the Fallout intellectual property with Interplay becoming a licensee so they can continue to pursue a Fallout MMO.
Todd Howard has also mentioned in at least one interview that they didn't buy the rights to Fallout simply to make one game, so chances are we'll see part 4 in a few years.

Yep. Also, Bethesda imposed rather strict restrictions on Interplay, which, if not met, will lead to Interplay also losing the Fallout MMO license.

Best:
Wiimusic
Endless Ocean
No More Heroes (if that was in '08)
Soul Bubbles
Worst:
I usually steer clear of bad games, but Fallout deserves an honorable mention for its mediocrity.

'08 unless you're from Japan.
