Angel Dust, I love VVVVVV... "Your Bitter Tears... Delicious", I'll never forget that name from "Doing Things the Hard Way". That was easily one of the top 5 hardest platform jumping puzzles I've ever done.

Anyways, I'd have to say that as far as releases go, 2010 was a pretty shitty year compared to 2009. As far as awesome releases, all I can think of off the top of my head was Red Dead, Mass effect 2, Super Mario Galaxy 2. This year has been characterized by dissapointingly bad games: Final Fantasy 14 and 13, Comic Jumper, APB, Epic Mickey, Force Unleashed 2, Crackdown 2, Lost Planet 2, AvP, Black Ops, and heavy Rain others. There really wasn't anything to compete with Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, Braid, or Batman. Especially Demon's souls.
Seems like a lot of the best titles this were download games, like meat boy and Scott Pilgrim.

Demon souls is one of the best rpgs (gameplay wise) I've played in ages. Hard as fuck but good. Easily one of the hardest games I've ever played. If you put the time in, it gets easier though. The storyline / narrative of it is very meh, but its the gameplay that matters most here.
And with it being christmas season all the servers / worlds got put on pure white tendency for the rest of this month. So if you want to beat the game, nows your time to do it. That said even with being pure white tendency, its still hard.

I'd go so far as to say that the gameplay actually gets easy, to where if you aren't goofing up you can blaze through levels pretty quickly. However, the game never stops being unforgiving.

Need for Speed Hot Pursuit

Just Cause 2
I didn't mean to post them in any particular order, but that seems like a pretty good order to me.
I love the Wanted multiplayer mode in AC:B. It makes a change to have a multiplayer mode where the goal is to kill other players be quite slow, methodical with bursts of speed and tension.

My GsOTY are Stalker: Call of Pripyat and Arma2: Operation Arrowhead. Honorable mentions: Assassin's Creed 2 and Metro 2033. That's about all the new games I've played this year. I also tried Apache: Air Assault which seemed fun (and deserves a mention), but didn't have time to seriously play it.
