I'm going to have to main line every movie from 2011 that I have on blu-ray, and then see what's still in theatres before I can put together a definitive list.
Never mind that, here's (

Since I don't think I saw a single movie this year that wasn't based on a comic book, I've got some catching up to do myself.

Was Sucker Punch really this year? I've read/seen/heard so many disbeleiving reviews of it it seems an eternity ago.

Oh God Facebook and it's newfangled timeline just reminded me I watched POTC4.
I did.
Don't.

Unless you like hot man-devouring mermaids. They were awesome. :D

Super 8 was typical Abrams; slick, superficial, and very, very manufactured devoid of any organic emotion or character development. That said, I didn't have any overwhelming problems with it because I expected that going in so it rates in the middle of the pack of my list above.

Bridesmaids, Paul, and Source Code may be the only 2011 films I've seen.
Oh, wait, Super. Which was...Super. A lot of people have compared it to Kick-Ass (Unfortuante, as their nearby releases was clearly a coincidence) and I can't comment on that comparison as I haven't seen it, but I really, really liked this. I always wanted James Gunn to return to superhero stuff, and he did.
Also, The People vs. George Lucas, which I don't think came out on DVD till this year. As good a documentary on the subject as could have been done.
But yeah, everything else I saw was 2010 or earlier.
I always get around to movies a few years too late, though. The Man From Earth was probably the best "new" film I saw this year (that or 13 Assassins).

Just saw The Thing.
Errr. Yeah.
It's practically the same film as the original but is somehow less tense. It does start off very well but was over long imho. The lack of the 80s version music was a mistake - that tense, dark bass would have fit in well during some of the slower scenes, and there were some moments that would have been brilliant if they'd stretched the scene out more and cut some of the chaff. The lab scene midway in for example. The looks between the characters had palpable paranoia and since this is all about paranoia stretching out would have been the superior tact.
One thing that bugs my about the Thing - why does it need to make noise? I'd prefer it to be silent and squidgy.
And we only saw it because Another Earth wasn't on. I hope to catch that before it goes off the cinema.
