So, it seems you guys like Stalker. Conversely, I'm feeling the Spore hatred.
Thanks for the recommendations so far, I edited the first post to include them. I left out the stuff that's not PC exclusive, even if there are advantages to having the PC version.
Oh, and you can add Killzone 2 to the PS3 exclusive list.

As for whether or not the games are recommended: I just scanned the Wikipedia lists for games that I knew were good from personal experience or otherwise just popular. Halo 3 (probably undeservedly) received (
http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/halo3) very strong reviews and sold millions: enough people liked it for it to be on the list.
And as for the "creatively stagnant" comment, well, I don't think anyone who's played the best games from any of these lists would say that.
You kinda need to add Uncharted, Siren: Blood Curse, and Killzone 2 to the PS3 list. Oh, and Valkyria Chronicles.
Anyhow, is there much point in trying to figure out whether all of the games mentioned have enough merit to be included on those lists? It's obviously a vastly subjective thing, each list will change from person to person if you're going that route.
I think what Angel Dust meant by titles being 'creatively stagnant' is that none of the big titles really make an effort to further the medium/genre, they're mostly comfortable retreading old ground.

Exactly and that's not to say some of those aren't fun either. I just figured form Aja's intial comment that he was going to list great and unique games that were on the consoles but it appears the situation is the same no matter what platform.
And for the record I have played most of those 360 titles Aja and I quite like Banjo-Kazooie. My wife is particularly fond of Viva Pinata but I have never been into those micro-management games.

I don't see it that way at all; half the games on my list are creatively unique.

Be careful, a lot of people give this game a pass because it lovingly, and in great detail, renders an environmentally atmospheric gameworld that is almost devoid of meaningful plot and characters. Not to mention, the gameplay gets a bit samey too.

Stalker didn't have much of a story, I agree. And any and all of the endings... wtf

STALKER's lack of plot killed it for me. I played it and finished it but I can't go back to it. It honestly reminded me of a Bethesda game, ala Morrowind, where they create this massive intriguing game-world and fill it with walking information desks.

Out of interest which ones? I'm mainly talking about 360 and PS3 here since I have little experience with the handhelds. Most of them, the 360 and PS3 games, are just shooters and racing games or a familiar game with a unique art direction eg Viva Pinata and PixelJunk Monsters. Now I don't think the games are crap or anything, most of them are very good, I was just quite disheartened by your list since I was hoping you were going to alert me to some undiscovered gems as I am not exposed to the console 'scene' as much as the PC.
Anyway for me the PC list would be
Defcon
Penumbra: Overture
World of Goo
The Path
Kings Bounty
The Witcher
Pathologic (maybe that's cheating a bit since it came out in 2005 in Russia)
Sins of a Solar Empire
Crysis
Audiosurf
STALKER
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer
Empire:Total War
Sam n Max Episodes
Men Of War
Since I have a terrible memory most of those are fairly recent so there is probably plenty of other ones too. I also don't personally like all those games but it gives a good range of what the PC has been up to lately. The whole exclusive thing is a bit daffy anyway since some games are just better on one system than they are on others. I will hardly ever play racing and platform games on a PC or FPS and strategy games on a console.

If you want to play Spore and not be kicked in the balls, play (

Original Stalker is very 5/10, but with proper mods it can be 8/10.

These are pretty sad lists. Not that the games aren't good, but pick any other system (well, besides PSP) and the list would be much longer.
But it wouldn't be
better.
Oh, and Cryostasis.
