I built a legacy system a little while ago for running some older stuff(thief 1&2, FFVII etc)
the system is
ECS k7S5A
AXP 2000+
512mb PC2100
Aureal Vortex 2
running windows98
I would like some recommendations for a good vid card for thief 1&2, only hitch is that the card also has to support palitized textures.
Radeons are out of the question, they don't support palitized textures, and none of the radeons seem to do anything with the textures in thief 1, doesn't even dither them, they look like big blobs of colour, just really look like ass.
I have a rage128pro in the system now, it dithers the textures in thief 1 but not very well, it also dithers everything on screen can't disable dither when alpha blending(the glowing/moving thing at the top of lamp posts gets dithered) It also runs rather slowly 800*600 is about max playabe res(would like 1024*768)
So I am wondering about older geforce cards, I can get a GF2 or GF4mx really easy(I think they support Palitized Textures?) I have heard of a problem with GF cards and the sky in thief, Does this effect all of the GF cards or only the newer ones? Is there a fix?
I am trying to get hold of a voodoo5 but so far I am not having much luck, If anyone could help me out with that I would be greatful.
Has anyone tried thief on a KyroII?

You don't need V5 to play them, V3 would be enough. Voodoo definitely gives the best quality in T1/2. Speaking of modern cards I prefer worse fog than sky :)

V5's seem to be kinda rare even on ebay, I live in Canada and many people seem only to want to ship in the states. But I may have to wait and find one on ebay
