BETRAYED ... or Stealth Games that Don't Allow Stealth in Boss Fights - by Digital Nightfall

I finished up the game a few days ago. :(
I can't point at any one part and say "this was bad" but it was disappointing in the end. Maybe my nostalgia for the first game is getting the best of me, but wasn't it at least twice as long and twice as clever? This seems more like an expansion pack! Anyway, looks like I am going to pass on j.a.c.k.
My reaction exactly. I can't even get past the 3rd mission in NOLF 2 - it bores me to tears. I kept thinking it would get better, but it just never did. I still have lots of love for the series though b/c the atmosphere is right up there with Thief and SS2 in my book.

As far as the "no stealth for bosses" offense, the first two metal gear solid games are a clear winner int his category.
These games are both very stealth focused, but have fights that focus on straight up, in your face, confrontations. Fortunately, most of these fights compensate by forcing you to use your head to defeat your opponent.
Metal Gear Solid 3 did somewhat better, as its most memorable boss fights all depended on stealth: The fights with The End, The Boss, and The Fury all allowed stealth to be used to maximize your chances during the fight. One of them could even be defeated by performing the difficult task of sneaking up behind him and putting a gun to his head.

The MSX games are pretty non-stealthy with bosses, too. I blame the fact that Japan likes things a bit overwrought and epic when it comes to bosses.
Of course, MG1 was really primitive when it came to stealth- so primitive that it was basically an action game with stealth tacked on, because it was very easy to get spotted.
Metal Gear 2 is a lot better in this regard.
The fight with The End has to be one of the best boss fights in any game ever. Seriously. And the fight with the Boss? Holy shit.

Didn't play MGS 3 unfortunately, but beating the crapload of Metal Gear Rays in MGS 2 (for an hour or so on hard difficulty) was a heroic effort for me  The final fight with Solidus was much easier.

It was quite the opposite for me. It got to the point were I could beat the Rays without getting hit but bloody Solidus kept kicking my ass

Reason i pointed out the end and The boss is because both fights give you the opportunity to make use of stealth.
The end can be defeated simply by sneaking up behind him and holding him up with your pistol, while using camouflauge in the fight with the boss will allow you to get some shots off without taking a beating.
The Fury's fight also makes use of stealth, as a player who ignore stealth will usually have a hard time getting close enough to damage him without getting burnt.

Very true. I've found that for me a single extra ration makes all the difference in the world. Otherwise I have to fight Solidus 20 times to relearn his patterns.

The choking scene before the Solidus fight is terrible. Unless you have an auto-fire controller, you end up losing a lot of health (assuming you aren't superhuman). On my playthrough of European Extreme, I ended up having to fight Solidus without getting hit once because I didn't have enough leftover health (and you only get 2 or 3 rations through the entire game).

I guess that makes me superhuman because I have a disgustingly easy time with that scene.

No kidding. I was seriously considering using a trainer for the MG Ray fight, since I thought you actually have to fight all 25 of them. Turned out it was only 6 or so on normal, how many were there on hard?
