Better frame rate. - by justin1001

Deus Ex had horrible framerates. Even worse was the slight lag in gameplay. It drove me nuts when I had to wait a second or two after turning the mouse for the view to turn. That also had an effect on the interface screen and the mouse pointer. Sometimes I got so frustrated sometimes that I would quit Deus Ex and play some Thief till I felt better.

I didn't have lag quite like that, but I do admit that there was a bit of control lag at times that was almost sickening.
Working with the Unreal Warfare engine, hopefully both coders on behalf of Ion Austin and Epic(?) will have learned a few things from their previous work with Unreal technology :)

I had no problem with framerate or lag here. Well, very little. Anyhow, with the next Deus Ex, I'm sure it's only going to get worse. But ya never know.

Fanatix,
Why would it only get worse? Technology goes forward, not backwards. The Unreal 2 engine is a superb work of technology. Ever since the incarnation of the first Unreal engine, the engine code has done nothing but improve. Your comments show you know nothing about the Unreal engine...read up on things before you speak.
As for the framerate problem, that was an issue to alot of people. However, there's alot of things that can affect this. Don't get a half A** video card (like an Nvidia MX version). Get one with a 128 bit pipeline and not a 64 bit pipeline, so information can flow quicker and more efficiently. Whether I played DX on my AMD K6-2 400Mhz, 128 MB RAM, Voodoo Banshee, or on my P3 933Mhz, 256 MB RAM, GeForce 256, the game played very nicely and I never had framerate problems.
You also have to remember that DX is very RAM hungry, meaning, it will use all the RAM it can get its greedy little hands on. If you play a couple of games before DX, then try going into DX, you need to reboot your system first, or you're definitely going to get plenty of bad framerates due to not enough RAM being cleared up for the game. I've noticed this several times, and right after I reboot, everything's good to go.

I completely agree with backdoorbandit...
Ive got a duron 900 AMD, 128 MB pc100, and onboard video, 64 MB.
and damn it lags more, but ive also got a AMD Athlon 1GHz w/ 512mb of pc133 and a voodoo5 card. what a powerful machine, even with programs in tha background i still get around 75 fps...
So its all about the RAM and graphics card you have, not neccessarily the CPU speed.
I cant wait to get the new GeForce3 on my duron, damn thats gonna be sweet.
especially hooking it up to my 36" sony VVega HDTV.

BackDoorBandit, I meant that as technology goes higher in graphics, you need faster and faster computers to run it. I'm sure graphics will be tons better in Deus Ex 2 thanks to the new Unreal II possiblities, yes. But this will also probably require you to have a faster machine.
But, I believe they did make an inprovement for GeForce users. On OpenGL, as I remember correctly. That's pretty much it on it running faster with a quicker framerate. Unless I missed something else.
