Your simplistic restating of "robots in the sky" is overlooking the fact that if there were none of that I have stated then there would be no robots in the skies. They do not target random people for no reason. What the hell would be the point?

I tend to think the mystical sects of religions -- in Islam's case the Sufis -- are actually on the better route (and maybe ironically more "realistic"), because for them the concept of jihad really is an internal and mystical struggle an individual has in their own spirit against the world's influence on them individually ... and it's not just bad for politics for religion to get involved in it, but it's also bad for religion to get involved in politics. It's about the same reason I think Creationism is not just bad science, but bad Christianity too, because you're completely tossing out the internal core of religion and hanging your hat on things like the mechanics of meiosis and plate tectonics, which is about the most emaciated spiritual stand I could imagine a devout person taking.
The fact that so many religious people are so passionate about getting spiritual things to act on the real world of politics and scientific processes, and ready to lash out to force the issue if they have to, to me is a testament to out of touch they are with what religion actually is (to say nothing of what the real world of politics and scientific processes actually are).

I knew my foil would show up. What is the point of bombing random people then? War has objectives so what was this objective? We aren't wasting enough of those damned expensive weapons? Post a link because that makes no sense at all. What I HAVE heard is the strikes over the years that successfully targeted those followed from fighting by satellite. They have been many. Are you talking about some mistake a peckerhead made which was well used by the media as a reason to go back to just being ambushed at will? I'm sure the repressive hardline intolerant zealots of the Taliban would make the most of that as well as self loathing European media.
