Wretched combat? Combat was one of the things many people liked about Fallout!

Combat was average-to-good, but frankly Jagged Alliance 1 beat it there, for me at least.
Navyhacker, you'll be pleased to know that the AI is not quite as fucking stupid with full-auto fire in the second installment; you can set it so they won't use it if firing close to you, IIRC.
The thing that annoyed me most was the inventory management. God almighty, in a game where you had to barter a lot of the time, why couldn't a friggin' grid system have been implemented?

Playing it for the first time. Awesome game. Tagging along with Dogmeat. Next stop: Military base.

I thought the combat system was one of the series' strong points. Fallout 1 and 2 are good games with an unusual setting, interesting things to do, and better writing than most other games. They aren't shining examples of human achievement or whatever, but they're good fun and they do a lot of interesting things.
The best part of FOBOS was the bit in the credits where the designers thanked the Fallout fan community, mentioning each of the crazier sites by name while a song called "People=Shit" played in the background. As a game and continuation of the franchise it's terrible, but as an impossibly elaborate attempt at trolling it's pretty impressive.

True, but then again, one of these two is an RPG, the other is a strategy game. The emphases are different, and the comparison isn't really that fair.

The second one seems like a much better game.
Exactly the opposite! In terms of gameplay they have refined only combat management of your teammates. Granted, if it works good, don't change it.
But the beautifully depressive post-apo feeling of the first one has been ruined by excessive sex and WAY TOO MANY pop references.
They were just so excited by F1 success that they have put the second together in less than a year with "Let's multiply everything by two" way, but it didn't work well in all aspects. At least the main storyline was relatively good.

Hahaha that's just Ian. Tycho is much better about weapons handling.

He was staring at me constantly when I played a female character while at the same time he used to block the doorway, just scratching his head there like if he had only "How can I bang her so it wouldn't look very cheap" on his mind.

Yeah, i feel i'm nearing the end in Fallout 1 and nothing has seemed out of place so far.
