It seemed about as serious as any of the Fallout intros. I don't see how you could expect too much in the way of in-jokes or humourous NPC interaction considering this is a non-gameplay teaser trailer.
It reminded me a lot of the rendered intros to Fallout 1 and 2, for instance. Basically the exact same formula.
Fallout 1 had the satiric juxtaposition of the glossy '50s ad on TV and then the zoom back to reveal the ruined city, arguably to comic effect. Fallout 2 went for much more grotesque, black humour in its intro, parodying a video of the "Duck and cover!" type. I'd agree with dylan barry that this teaser is less humorous.
At the same time, I wouldn't want them to give us the intro already; and as a teaser I thought this was very effective. It doesn't show much humour yet. It doesn't show the combat system. It doesn't show the dialogues. But it shows that they're not bad at capturing the Fallout atmosphere, enough so to make many of the NMA crowd on the Bethsoft forums admit that they're quite impressed. In other words, I don't agreewith dylan barry's interpretation. Phew. :p

Did the choice of song not raise a little smile? It's not just any Ink Spots song - "I don't want to set the world on fire"

It was predictable, they knew that it would get people (NMA) off there backs for a while.
I felt like i was watching the fallout 1/2 intro which was the problem, wheres the new game ? we all know what fallouts about, proving that THEY do as well isnt going to make it easier for them.
I dunno maybe its a great teaser, they need to follow that up pretty quick with some gameplay as there isnt realy anything new to go on.
I feel teased i guess:p
New engine looks realy good, just kind of missing the mad max desert thing

Yeah, why not just put a sign above all the loot that says "I'M LOOT! COME GET ME" while you're at it. Oh, and maybe they'll make it so you can press the X button (olol consoles ) and have the AI play the game for you. Would that make you happy?
Immersion.
I think your sarcasm detector broke. Either that or mine did.

Personally, I always thought the original Fallout power armour was a little too space-marine for it's own good, the 'new' armour sits more pretty with the apocalypse.
But Jesus Christ.
Quite how far out of control the massive over-analysis of less than two minutes of teaser-trailer footage is going to get remains to be seen.

Forget it, Ulukai. It's the internet.

Thank you, Captain Obvious :weird:

There goes a neatly placed Chinatown reference...
*tumbleweed blows past*
Ulukai on 5/6/2007 at 19:20
Chinatown? Now what are you banging on about?
Deus Ex?
A film?
Does everyone with a passing interest in Fallout stand a chance of getting this reference or are you just posturing as more intelligent than the rest of us?
Less riddles, man :D

Hey, on a board where people can discuss 2001 for pages and pages, I don't think it's elitist to think that people may have seen Chinatown, one of the greatest films of the '70s. :)
