The above quote was from several years ago during VB development in response to NMA. The NMA mod vs VB developer is on the SomethingAwful Fallout 3 thread. NMA forums can be reached via the front page. Registering on NMA forums also requires a revolver for playing Russian roulette when the insanity gets to be too much.

But we're not making a game just for you and ten other angry guys with tastes that are narrower than a hallway in a camp of pygmy dwarves.
Awesome. :D

The NMA guys seem to be getting just a touch self-absorbed, lately.

Well, considering how NMA-absorbed everyone else has been, no suprise there. People may laugh at them, make fun of them, make harsh generalization, but they seem to come up anywhere Fallout 3 is discussed. Which is pretty much everywhere games are discussed these days. You google fallout, and NMA is 3rd, after bethsoft's official site and the wikipedia entries on the game and actual nuclear fallout. Wish I could get my website that kind of search rankings.
I wonder if anyone there realizes that all the bitching, complaining, and yelling is succeeding in nothing except getting Bethesda press. Really, the rabid anti-fallout 3 yelling the hardcore FO fanbase gets bethesda more mindshare then bethesda's PR does.
Briareos H on 19/6/2007 at 23:33
What's the point in realizing that ? What's wrong with getting Bethesda press ?
Phatose on 20/6/2007 at 01:02
Generally speaking, people don't want to give extra media attention to a product they're hating on.

we want 50's stylized future, we want vaults, we want tribals, we want isolated settlements, we want quests, we want perks, we want traits, we want our actions to have meaning, we want turn-based, we want isometric, we want 3D, we want important chars to have talking heads, we want multiple ways for our different chars to do quests and important events, we want a sandbox to play in, we want the special system, we want something that stays true to cannon, we want something that looks and feels like post-apoc, we want deep story, and we want the jokes and the easter eggs.
thats what fallout as a rpg is. if it doesnt have those features, then its not really a fallout but something else.
shoot me now

Most of the NMA bashing is boring, facile, boring, cliche, boring, unimaginative and, since I think I forgot to mention it, boring. Most of it is on the same intellectual level as 'OMG! can you believe it? People exist that think Barnet FC is the greatest football club in the world when everybody knows Manchester United is!' and is frequently
grossly hypocritical considering some of the unmitigated excremental drivel found in their own forums and that many of the anti-NMA rants have roughly the same logical basis as NMA's anti-Bethesda rants.
And to be explicit this is
not aimed at Jonesy or anybody else here, we are- as usual- relatively mature and sensible...
