it actually has a turn-based combat system.
It isn't TB, it's real time with pause like in Baldur's Gate, PS:T, and KOTOR.

The combat has been a hot bed of questioning lately, and from what we saw it is a complicated thing to convey properly. The game is in real time, not turn based, and enemies will move and act in real time when you fight them. The key is when you activate the VATS (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System) button that it becomes interesting: the game pauses entirely as your view zooms into an enemy and you see the parts of their body highlighted with different percentages. While the game is paused the player assigns actions to be taken using their given number of Action Points. i.e. - shoot them in the head 3 times) Once this has been done, the system is deactivated and the assigned actions play out in a matter of seconds in what is really a seamless mini-cinematic. And if the player has succeeded the mutant's head explodes in glorious 3D with guts and eyeballs flying all over the place. It is vague at this point about how fast action points refresh and therefore how often this can be done, but in the demo Todd was using this system repeatedly in each combat over and over again. It seems that when used in the game, it really borders on becoming a turn-based game where things simply happen in real time between player turns which really just means the turns are more fluid. We will have to wait and see exactly how this turns out.

The descriptions I've read make it sound like a KOTOR like queue system/ 'bullet time' (well, pausable bullet-time) hybrid, so it certainly isn't Codex definition turn based, and probably isn't even proper definition turn based. My main worry is that it reverts to real time and you can apparently still fire while recharging APs, which may mean combat will devolve into a 'make called shots, then mash LMB' type system. Not enough info to make that call yet though.
Certainly won't be the VATS system as used by the other Fallout titles though (lolz Worthplaying, show your old-skool fallout cred)

New info includes: no killable children, no vehicles, no groin shots, cannibalism, a camera that can pan out to a pseudo-isometric view, hacking mini-game, etc...
The sucky sounding ones are the hacking mini-game, collectible dolls' heads (some of which improve your stats!?), max 20 points invested into skills (I'm hoping that's 20 points
per level since the wording isn't clear), fast travel (may be OK so long as it's not as dumb as the Oblivion version). The worst thing though is the strong impression that they are primarily aiming for 'kewl', reinforced by the weapon descriptions (hoping the Suck-a-Tron Toaster gun is some sort of joke, sadly the nucular gun probably isn't), exploding nuclear cars and that there are going to be x360 'achievements' or somesuch.
I was more predisposed to the hating anyway because of all the Bethsoft/ Oblivion fellating in those previews- when will one of the previewers have the balls to say that the RadiantAI in Oblivion was
garbage and the level of story choice and consequence consisted of 'do quest/don't do quest yet' in almost all cases?
Most of the other things I don't care about.
On the positive side, I quite like the idea of cannibalism!

Yeah fast travel sucks! That's not Fallout at all!
All Xbox 360 games are required to have achievements. Very rarely do they affect the gameplay in any way. Usually they are just things like "Reach level 20" etc etc.

All Xbox360 games are (
http://gamerscoreblog.com/team/archive/2007/02/01/540575.aspx) required to have achievements. This isn't news or some clueless decision on Bethesda's part, it's something developers are required to put in when developing for the platform.
Edit: Whoops. That's what I get for going to check on dinner midway through writing a post.

There should be both options, fast and slow travel. Travelling on Fallout maps was still a lot faster than slow roaming in Oblivion and Morrowind worlds.

From my original post, important part now bolded

..fast travel
(may be OK so long as it's not as dumb as the Oblivion version)..See, when I see 'fast travel' in association with a Bethsoft product I think of the magical Oblivionesque version where you teleport to a place you may not even have visited yet, whenever you want, as often as you want and no matter the distance, not the rather risky map travel used in F1/2. If they had the Oblivion style in F2 you could potentially just teleport straight to San Fran/ Navarro/ wherever, and certainly could once you had been there once, rather than running the risk of hitting some centaurs/ enclave/ super muties and whatever else hanging around nearby. Thus the disclaimer: may be OK so long as it's not as dumb as the Oblivion version.

Yeah, my fault as their inclusion isn't technically new info, and I didn't use the best wording in any case. I know that it is a compulsory thing, blame/ credit MS for it etc. It stuck out primarily because it was
already being mentioned,
despite it being compulsory, and mentioned there since that bit of rant was about 'kewl' intrusion.
It is just that I have little doubt that the first time I see someone bragging about becoming a 'Fat Boy Master' or 'Ratscorpion Slayer' (sic, I hope) I will have a brief reaction of wishing that some minor and ultimately survivable physical violence be visited upon their person.

They probably won't be in the PC version so you guys can rest assured that your enjoyment of the game is still intact.
