Next up: England!

Righto, well I saw those 3 trailers and OH MY GOSH IT LOOKS GREAT IT MAKES ME WET.
Now one critical point.
The PipBoy 3000 is cool in action, however we can already see how is the interface adapted to gamepad control (as it could be presumed, still...).
The drag&drop inventory from previous games is gone. Well maybe I'm old, unreformable drag&dropper but in the good classic RPGs it was fun for me to drag objects across in grid, place weapons into arm slots, dress my avatar by placing pictures of armor and suit onto proper slots and I guess I never grow up from it properly. What we have now, instead of pictures of objects, is just textual name of the object, which we can highlight and maybe move from column A to column B to activate it. There are monochromatic green pictures portraying the particular object on the pipboy screen, but I will genuinely miss those small color pictures of MANY MANY various guns, armors, chems, quest items, Nuka Cola bottles and Iguanas-on-a-Stick. They were performed in 256 colors, they were not sharp, but they gave me such a good idea with how interesting things I am manipulating in my inventory. Those pitiful monochromatic sketches we have now on the PipBoy screen are pretty much of a downer for me when it comes to representation of inventory items, but oh well.

After E3 we have dozens of previews, naturally some are enthusiastic, while others are sceptical, if not downright malicious. But most points emerge just from personal tastes of previewers.
This particular preview points out several glitches, but I see nothing in it what would suggest that F3 is gonna be COMPLETE DISASTER.
I've decided not to give whining previewers a credit, better that moaning that they ruined this and that I look forward the many good things I saw on the screenshots and in the videos and make the final verdict for myself when it hits my harddrive.
One thing pisses me off however - and it's not only problem of Beth and F3, it's another general trend of multiplatform gaming - the companies just present their game on consoles and previewers don't have chance to taste it on PCs. This way the previews can be quite biased when it comes to their gameplay judgements. At least this particular previewer is experienced enough to acknowledge this possibility.
Even if the real-time combat isn't as fluent as it should be in first-person shooter, this is not meant to be an FPS and I'm completely fine with going through the game using only VATS, because tactical turn based combat is what makes Fallout what it is.
They should have added a note to the VaultTec ad in the trailer :
GAMEPLAY ON PCs AND CONSOLES MAY VARY. Because it will.

Oh, bugger.

The preview videos were pretty mediocre, unsurprisingly. Makes it look like a low quality fps, obvious AI problems, crap animations and, contrary to Todd's blather, VATS most definitely will get old, quickly.
No traits. Perks every level.
But I'd be willing to forgive just about anything if the dialogue and story are up to snuff.

The best thing about this game, so far, is it's imminent arrival keeps reminding me that I've got to get Fallout 1 and 2.

That would be my overal pre-judgement as well. Ok, not ANYTHING, just a lot.
SE : Sure thing! I actually dusted off my Fallout soundtrack today ... For some time I plan to replay #2 before I get to this, but I wonder if I make it until #3 comes out - then of course #3 will have utmost priority.

If you like a good tactical strategy game, SubJeff, don't forget Fallout Tactics as well! It's suprisingly way more expensive than you'd think- I spent $65 on a used copy.
Worth it though! :D
Note to self: Pre-order Fallout 3 because you're not Australian therefore you can

Is Fallout Tactics a Command Point game like Jagged Alliance and XCom? And does it fit with the fiction of Fallout 1 and 2? I'll have to play those first anyway. Can't find them on the usual UK gaming shop sites at the moment though. Hmm. Looking further afield...
Edit: found a collection, 1, 2 and Tactics for the grand sum of £8. That's alot less than $65. It's about $50 isn't it? ha ha. Seriously it's about 20 Mickey Mouse notes!
