I'm finding a lot to like in these videos. I do think the enemy AI is questionable. I don't like that they're so quick to run at you when they're carrying ranged weapons (case in point, the scene where you're in a bathroom and enemies with rifles, no less, are just dumbly pouring in).
The game seems to have personality, which is important. Didn't like the music initially used for the overworld -- far too fantasy-sounding, but it definitely seems to get better and more appropriate to Fallout in the other videos.
Stealth and diplomacy are clearly in the game, but because Bethesda has done almost nothing to showcase these features, for whatever reason, so it is easy to be presumptuous and assume that they'll be very watered down and possibly won't satisfy a lot of fans. I do hope the game's more well-rounded.

Megaton and
the quest to destroy itThis is so well known event in the game by now you don't even have to bother to use spoiler tags for it. :(

I beg to differ

yeah, i just saw those videos and I think it's a spoiler (no matter how insiginificant it could turn out during the course of the whole game).

The way they keep trotting it out, I'm wondering if Megaton is Fallout's version of Fargoth, and the rest of the game is just bandit caves and Crassius Curio jokes.

Quick question: Is it true that Fallout 3's map will be just a tad smaller than vanilla Oblivion?
Rogue Keeper on 4/9/2008 at 13:24
I've heard so. But at the same time there should be more to do in that area and it will be populated by less friendly NPCs, but they will have more to say.
But I don't know if they meant the Cyrodiil game world or complete model of the world - there is more land beyond Cyrodiil borders which you can explore if you turn off the invisible wall in cfg. Not that you can find anything interesting there, but I managed to travel to the very edge of the world and fell down to... great abyss? It's a discworld.=D

After watching some of the new videos I'm hoping they won't have much more to say. They use the same utterly fucking useless voice actors as Oblivion that made me want to take a powerdrill to my inner ear in the hope I would never again have to listen to them.
Oh yeah, and the animations still look like crap, the AI still looks like crap etc...
Angel Dust on 5/9/2008 at 00:59
I must say the animation is shockingly bad in these videos. There is no use having nice looking textures and models in nicely detailed levels if those said models move with all the grace and poise of puppet with several strings cut. I really don't get it, surely Bethesda have the resources to hire some talented animators or is the animating team is comprised of the CEO's retarded cousins or something?
The FPS combat also looks horribly clunky. Personally I was looking forward to having the combat sections play out in a FPS manner but Bethesda seem to have no idea what they are doing in that regard.
gunsmoke on 5/9/2008 at 13:48
I thought it was able to be played like an typical FPS, and you can optionally enable the VATS system?
