I watched a bit of that feed. He was hunting giant fire-breathing ants in what looked to be an abandoned subway.
Didn't see any dialogue. But VATS looks like it will piss me off big time if there isn't a 'stop trying to be John fucking Woo while I'm shooting at an average ant' setting. It tries so hard to be cinematic, and while it succeeds the first time, after the 10th, it's just fucking annoying.

TES were heavily inspired by the open-world aspect of Fallout.
The dialog system is identical to that found in Fallout 1 & 2. The writing may be worse, I'd suspend judgment until actually playing a good chunk of the game, there are plenty of lines from FO1&2 that if taken out of context look silly. Fast travel was in Fallout 1&2. What is wrong with the inventory exactly? From my experience playing FO3 it is functionally the same as FO1&2. The combat system is... well it's shootery, not quite full shooter quality, so it kind of occupies the place that SS2 combat occupied. It's not the point of the game so... meh? It will be more or less important to different people. It definitely isn't turned based combat, though.
There are plenty of good criticisms for FO3, but it seems people get confused at times. The two routes seem to be "it is like Oblivion, and Oblivion sucked in these ways" and "it is not like Fallout 1 & 2." Seems like sometimes people can get their two streams crossed though.

Hey, that's not killing too much, actually. But then we shall see how it really moves.

Fast travel was in Fallout 1&2.
There was no fast travel, there was only generic map travel. What would be slow travelling in a 2D game composed of separate location maps?
Now, there was a difference between ordinary travelling and map travelling in Arcanum, as the world of Arcanum was continuous, not composed of dozens of separate desert/town screens like Fallout 1&2.
Fast travel is, in my opinion, instant transition to location you click on the map.
And some TES fans used to scream in terror that there was instant fast travelling in Oblivion, but who forces them to use it??? If you like walking, then walk. Who gets bored of walking and wants to fasten the game progress, he can use instant map travelling. This was a good solution to satisfaction of everyone and it's good F3 will use something similar, but instead of instant transition to target location, we could watch our characters travelling on the map and be interrupted by random encounters.

Just looking at the games' release dates puts this into some serious questioning, then there's the fact that the games are, eh,
nothing alike.

VATS is sweet, I will never grow tired of it :P Graphics is great, the gfx engine is way faster and more fluid than Oblivion or Morrowind. A must buy imo.

Still haven't seen anything to make me less excited about getting it. Granted, I hate isometric games to the point that simply having the fallout humor/atmosphere in a first person game is a big win.
