You play WoW, I don't expect you to know what you're talking about.
Yes, I play WoW. Again. I took a 3 months break last Fall. But I started playing again this year, to experience Wrath of the Lich King, This time I'm just messing around solo and with a few friends (who also came back to WoW for WLK). But I'm not going to do the raiding again. I'm not hurrying, and the leveling is pretty fun. I'm not gonna claim that WoW is perfect or the best game. But I like the fact that my game character is persistent. That's missing from most other online games, like shooters. I'm also in a guild where all people are over 25y old. Around 250 people (with hundreds of characters). Some of them I've played with for 4 years now. Some of them are from my old UT clan even. For me WoW is better than a chatroom or forum.
Yeah, I could buy UT2004 to see that it's like. But the scarce resource is time, not money. When I stopped playing WoW, I played some Oblivion. I also wanted to play Stalker, Crysis and The Witcher (which are lying on my desk). But I just didn't have time for it. UT2004 (and UT3) would be even after that. Sorry.
You seem to enjoy watching American Football. That disqualifies your opinion even more than mine !!

Call of Duty 4, 5 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 say hi.

Dethtoll also likes really shitty formulaic procedural crime dramas like Criminal Minds, instead of genuinely good shows of that ilk like The Wire, The Shield and Damages.

That's 'cuz WoW takes up all your time.

At what point did you come upon this hilariously erroneous conclusion? I don't even watch for the commercials. Which, again, proves my point: you play WoW, I don't expect you to know what you're talking about.
Also shut up, Eva, Criminal Minds rules. The shows you mentioned are all on cable, which I only just
got less than a year ago, and therefore are outside my realm of giving a shit.

Do they just have persistance of named characters, or actual persistence of
your character? As in, would your performance and abilities (maybe even choices) in CoD4 reflect your character in CoD5?
I suspect not, but I've not played either, so thought it'd be worth checking. That's the sort of persistance of character I think LF is referring to. No matter how much continuity there might be in a series of shooters, the character you play is never going to feel as much 'yours' as a MMORPG character would.
Given that most of the other games listed on the "LF playlist" also feature RPG-like character development, I'm guessing that's more of a general priority than running and gunning.
But anyway, far be it from me to stand in the way of dethtoll mouthing off again because someone dared to have an opinion that differed from his own.

Not during the 3 months I didn't play WoW, of course.

How the heck am I supposed to know that the Orioles play baseball ?
Anyway, baseball isn't much better than American Football.
Fat guys in tights who run a few seconds in total during a 4 hour game.
Exciting !

So you gathered from that TWO WORD post in which I sarcastically mention a team that had nothing to do with the Super Bowl that I like football somehow?
Yeah okay. Go play WoW, the adults are talking.

Yes, I like the RPG side of WoW. Where you work on building a character. And the character's stat are what matters, and not the "skills" of the player behind the character. I dislike pvp in WoW, because it totally conflicts with the RPG-based idea of having a character.
I started playing HL1, Quake, Unreal. Pure shooters. Played Thief (loved it). Then played UT99 for a year. Moved to via Morrowind to WoW. I've played loads of other games, but none of them consumed so much time as UT, Morrowind and WoW did.
I like games where I can explore stuff. Not pure adventure games (do they still make those) ? But a combination of fighting and exploring. Or sneaking and exploring. I also like RPG settings (with swords and magic) better than sci-fi or anything involving guns. The perfect game for me would be a game that:
1) would have a huge world. like 10 times bigger than WoW. 100 times bigger.
2) some serious travelling involved. no safe and easy roads. no teleports. no flying mounts
3) stuff to find, stuff to do, that's not easy to find. no quest pointers. no online game databases (like Thottbot), no walk-throughs
4) no pvp. it distracts from the pve game. it messes up interaction between classes. and thus messes up teamplay.
5) nice graphics. I'm a graphics whore. always been since Unreal.
6) the hardest fights in game should be doable with 10 people. Or 5 maybe. I have some friends, but I don't have 24 friends.

Yeah, I was wrong. I don't make it a habit to study your posts in detail. Sorry.
I've been corrected, you like fat guys in tights.

Says that guy who made 6000 posts on a forum dedicated to games. Dude, none of us here are adults.
