2) some serious travelling involved. no safe and easy roads. no teleports. no flying mounts
3) stuff to find, stuff to do, that's not easy to find. no quest pointers. no online game databases (like Thottbot), no walk-throughs
I like most of your ideas, but these two sound horrible.

Aye. While things like fast travel and quest markers are a bit jarring, when you're just wanting to finish some mindless bloody fetch quest NOW, it's a blessing.
Actually, regarding huge amounts of 'stuff to do', I find one of the main problems with things like Oblivion is that there's SO much content in there that no matter how hard you try, you're basically just...bored with it all, before you've even seen half of it..or even started the main quest. And then you feel obliged to check out the stuff you haven't seen anyway (it might be good?), but the magic has gone and you end up kinda resenting the game. There are only so many demon princes you can smash in the face before you start to yawn while doing so, after all.

I guess the point is not to have mindless bloody fetch quests in a serious MMORPG(Which I think LittleFlower was aiming at).

While I would welcome this with open arms, I do wonder at what they'd come up with in place of this sort of thing.
It's tricky to come up with anything meaningful when your persistent world is essentially unchanging: you can't have JUST one team get the mission to kill Zorgoth the Unstoppable, and then "he's dead" (as this would annoy all players but that one team), but if EVERYONE can do it, it's a bit silly.
Though clearly I should've made up a better suffix than "..the Unstoppable", since that pretty neatly fits the latter scenario..
Still I guess this is more of a general problem with MMORPGs: in an effort to extend the best experience to all players, you end up with a world full of identikit legendary heroes....which makes the whole concept of "legendary" a bit suspect.
The one exception I can think of is EVE, but I'm not sure that model would work in..say, a fantasy setting. Are there any others?

Dethtoll also likes really shitty formulaic procedural crime dramas like Criminal Minds, instead of genuinely good shows of that ilk like The Wire, The Shield and Damages.
He also likes Robot Chicken, which makes up for any other tv slip-ups. Awesome people watch and/or appreciate Robot Chicken. And, I like Criminal Minds AND The Shield.
And LittleFlower...you are the biggest What The Fuck I have ever encountered in Real Life or on the internet. Seriously, WTF is going on in that head of yours? Is it just a piggy bank for your spare change or something?

Don't attempt trolling, gunsmoke. You're bad at it.

The problem is that MMOs treat the players very single-player like - i.e. they try and make EVERYONE a world-saving demigod hero, which simply doesn't work.

Not trolling in the slightest. Just reacting to a person I just don't get. Also, I am glad I am bad at it. That is not a skill I would be proud of.

Hi Trance.
Call me stupid, but I don't understand what you mean by this. Are you agreeing w/him, or taking a shot at him?

Consider him officially called out.
