Big Whoop. THIS IS A MONKEY ISLAND 2 REMAKE THREAD! - by Renzatic

I can't access the site from work (it's blocked, as are most fun sites), but Monkey Island 2 is by far my favourite game in the series. I wasn't happy with some of the design work on MI SE, but this is still pretty exciting news!

There was a lot of complaints of how half-arsed the first remake was graphics wise. Eg the new backdrops were sloppily overlayed over the originals and the animations were limited.
P.S. Could you please give us a more descriptive thread title?

Kewl, more adventure titles please. I never understood the hate the 3d version got, until I played the older ones absolutely hilarious stuff. I don't remember solving a single puzzle without a walkthrough my head doesn't work like that, but fun it was.

I have to partially disagree here. I loved the new backdrops, and thought they did an excellent job updating it graphically and stylistically while still keeping to the look and feel of the original. But the characters...yeah...they were a little lacking. The weird redesigns never grew on me, and the animation were just...egh.
This new remake at least addresses one of those complaints. The character artwork is a huge, vast, gigantic improvement, and the backdrops, while looking quite a bit like MI1 SE, have a more brushstroked painterly appearance in line with old MI2. If they can at least throw in a few more frames of animation here and there, then it'll be a remake worthy of the Monkey Island name.
And for those of you tragically blocked behind a firewall, here's some screenshots...

Big Whoop indeed.
I haven't actually played the MI1 Special Edition yet (even though I bought it some time ago in a Steam sale), but great news nonetheless.

Fuck, those backdrops are gorgeous. I've always loved the darker, more nocturnal feel of much of Monkey Island 2.

Amazing indeed they are dripping with atmosphere and style.

Fantastic, I had been hoping for this.
Now all we need is Fate of Atlantis, you hear me LucasArts?

Probably not going to happen, seeing as how it's available for purchase on e.g. Steam. Whereas MI1 and MI2 were (deliberately) held back to allow for the development of the Special Editions, I'm guessing.
