Ah, that sucks. I think we all kind of knew this would happen someday, though..

Not after only fucking seven years though.

Yeah pretty much.

They pulled the plug on oXbox Live after only 7 years as well. This sets a really bad precedent for 360 Live, Xbone Live, etc. (Jesus, just imagine how Xbone's might've been with its original DRM that had to phone home every 24 hours. Plug pulled on the service = possible eternally bricked console.)
Anyway point is that I'll be boycotting MS gaming software from now on, unless they use a service middleware that MS has limited control over like Steamworks. Thankfully the Steamworks precedent has been set with games like State of Decay, Deadlight, Mark of the Ninja, Dust: An Elysian Tail, etc - all games published by MS.

I spoke too soon. Still crashes. If only this game had console access so I could just skip to the next level...
Provided save files aren't keyed to specific user profiles (thinkin' of u UPlay), you could ask around for a save game that takes place right after that level. I'd offer my own, but I don't remember what point they're at in the game and haven't even ascertained if they're compatible with the Steam version.
One obvious problem would be that your guns, plasmids, and tonics aren't going to be the same.

Saved games from the retail version work fine with the Steam version, FYI. I checked last night -- but that's usually the case, really.

More fun to start from scratch, it has the best gameplay of any Bioshock. Plus you get to unlock the new Steam chieves.

So let me just clarify then: if I were to go and buy a physical disc of Bioshock 2 today, I could activate it through Steam instead of GFWL, and obtain all the DLC including Minerva's Den for free?
Sulphur on 5/10/2013 at 09:36
That's right.
The DLC is pretty much Minerva's Den. The other stuff was a bunch of multiplayer maps, which were free.

Most of the multiplayer DLC was not free. Also, the PC version has a free copy of The Protector Trials.
