Very stupid.
I just installed NewDark in Thief 2, and was wondering....
why is Garrett's sword hilt black? Is that something they did for the patch? Or is it an error? Its not really a PROBLEM, Im just strangely curious over the whole thing.

It's fine for me. It's not a stupid question, but the thread title should be more descriptive.
Have you installed any texture/object packs? Perhaps you installed an FM using Darkloader (which puts content in your root T2 folder) and that's replaced the hilt texture.

Yeah, I have a fan mission installed, but its the same way when the game is playing the original levels. I installed Thief 2 from the Mastertronic release, then tafferpatched it, then applied 1.20. No new/hi res texture installs or anything like that. Whats the name of the sword HILT texture file? So this seems to be a new one eh? Weird.

The model for the player sword arm is mesh/armsw2.bin. If you're Tafferpatched then you have the Enhancement Pack; its version of the model uses swhilt.gif and nvswhandle.gif for the hilt assembly. The stock model uses the relevant portion of swhand.gif instead.

the original sword (and blackjack as well) hand is badly, badly broken. TafferPatcher remedies this by installing a fixed model, which is not perfect, but still much, much better.
optimally, the hand model should be remade from scratch - maybe someone will pick up the task someday.

Strange, nothing else seems to be different. I didnt install the enhancement packs or anything like that. The gifs still appear to be the regular game ones. Maybe the increased resolution caused a small error? Nobody else with tafferpatcher has a black hilted sword?

Oh, what about the texture for the spinny sword in my inventory? Ya know, on the side of the screen when its equiped? And thanks again for reading my dumb questions. :)
