Oh my yes, I'm playing Thief again after years away from the game. Decided to replay Thief II before going through the huge backlog of fan missions.
That said, in Blackmail, I'm puzzled about a gear lock that's missing a gear.
I don't recall having this issue before and can't find any mention of it in walkthroughs or here in the forums, but there's a door that has a gear lock when you move from the second to the third floor.
This isn't the silver gear door or the bronze gear door (there's two of those, both leading to the Great Hall from spiral staircases although I only found one bronze gear in Truart's bedroom).
Walkthroughs seem to act as if this door doesn't even exist. I found one that mentions a golden gear in the listing of what's available in the level, but it doesn't say where the golden gear is found.
And I hate, HATE to leave a door unopened if I can avoid it.
Anyone have a clue about where to find the golden gear?

When doing web searches, there's the "metal gear," the "silver gear," and the "bronze gear," if the authors of the walkthroughs or helpful hints labeled things according to the game. The bronze gears are on Benny's belt or Truart's bedroom.

Actually, I finally found it - it was on the belt of the one of the guards who tore down the stairs after the alarm is raised once the body is discovered.
And nope, it's a golden gear. Not metal, not silver, not bronze. All those I found on my own :)
