Quick, ring the papers.

If they made a freaking Diablo 1/2 hybrid lovechild and sold it just being a graphical upgrade with some new areas everyone would be happy. I can understand not really
wanting to do that, but people wouldn't complain.
Well you could say that alot of Hellgate London was in that same "sort" of look. But that game doesn`t hold a candle to Diablo.

Azshara!

Yeah, a bit innit? :D
Personally, I like it a lot.

Azshara was the nicest place in Kalimdor. Must visit it again as I activated my account again (yes I am a stupid stupid man).

That's because HG suffers from the gameplay (and story even) being very tedious and uninteresting. I thought it's visual style was great though. Probably one of the only reasons I kept playing it for a while.

The problem is having no neutral colors and everything having to be at the very least a more or less pale shade of blue, green or purple, aka 'wow gayness'
This is how I feel in regards to his "the environments are too flat/boring/enemies blend in, etc." arguments. I don't think it's bad to have bright and vivid color in a game, but if EVERY area and enemy has that same bright and vivid high contrasting look to it, then that is essentially just presenting the same problem in a different way. Instead of everything being a little flat and greyish, everything is bright and colorful, which would be just as uninteresting.
The funny thing is, they (both blizzard and fans) seem to be forgetting that Diablo 2 made effective use of both more neutral colors and very vivid ones as well. Here's the shocking part though, the different styles were used when the situation/environment called for it, rather than just being a style that the game is stuck with. Dungeons were supposed to be dark and dreary, and the colors suggested as much. Certain characters/environments/effects were supposed to be eye-catchin and vivid, and those colors suggested as much as well.
I guess the main thing about Diablo 2's color scheme (for environments) was that it was fairly realistic. Most of the screenshots I've seen so far for D3 are far more "cartooney" and game-like (aka, wow gayness). I'm sorry, but a dungeon will not have a green hue to it, unless something is causing the light source to be green. Simple as that. I guess there are those that like to have the game try to convince them they're really in a world, while other people just want to be wowed (no pun intended) by bright pretty colors.

Unfortunately Diablo III is becoming less and less interesting to me as time goes on. It looks cartoonish, and if I know Blizzard they're going to make the exact same mistakes they did with Diablo II (can't save anywhere, unreasonable difficulty for a lone player, other stupid MMO bullshit)
I'm sorry, I wanted to like Diablo II but the game stopped being fun for me about midway through Act II.

I dunno dethtoll, I was very irked by those first two points as well but I've been reading a few things recently where Bliz seem to hold their hands up to those errors. I'm cautiously interested in DIII, at least if they can fix the game balance for solo play.
Mingan on 7/8/2008 at 18:54
This just in : Blizzard is looking for a Lead Art Director for DIII. Dissent among the troops?

Ha! No.

Inability to save anywhere was necessary in a game with such a strong multiplayer focus, I can't really see them changing it in III. I have no idea how the hell you found it hard considering /players 8 in single was always pretty much standard and dozens of people finished the game with it, pre- and after-synergies, including me. And the "other stupid MMO bullshit" was what made the game actually
fun, but I know you hate everything(mmo) so I won't even bother.
