Gore and blood should be closer to more realistic occurences of such. If a person is shot though the chest with a fifty caliber FMJ bullet, it's gonna leave a nice round hole the whole way through. However, if shot at point blank with a 12 gauge, you're gonna have a fist sized hole on one side, a bloody mess on the other, and an 8 foot long cone of blood spray flying away from the gun.
With the subject that if you want to have something more realistic than in a game, it is not legal to shoot someone at point blank with a 12 gauge for no apparant reason. If games were not ment to be more realistic, than we'd still be playing pong instead of virtual 3-d tennis. Games are ment to allow people to do things that can't be done, legally or otherwise (think mechwarrior,) in real life.
Gore brings out the morbid intrest that people have about things you don't see everyday. Like a train wreck that you drive by. If you actually watch someone shot through the head, in person, it would generate a good deal more intrest than you would watching it done in a movie so that no one is hurt and it looks real. Think how much intrest would be generate if you could be the one pulling the trigger and it being a simulation so that no one got hurt. I just want the gore to be correct, so that an arm is not blown of by a 9mm.

How do you know it's correct? Seen a lot of gunshot wounds?
Lest this be seen as a personal slur, how would any typical player know?

Forensic scientists use a lot devices ment to simulate the resitance of human flesh and organs and much of the rest of the gooey mess inside a body. These acn be tested at different ranges to see how large a bullet wound may be depending on the type of gun and from where it was shot. I'm not saying I'm a forensic scientist but I can do a bit of studying and I know a good deal about firearms.

I dont khow if you ever play Hitman but the character animation in that game is very good espacially when you dregging the body maybe this system can be used in upcoming deus ex2

I agree; Hitman's Glacier engine still has an unsurpassed body-physics model that includes physical reactions to every single gun shot and a great dragging feature. While I think the Unreal engine's superior scripting ability is probably best for DX2, I would still like to see more Deus Ex-like games utilizing the Glacier engine. I'm looking forward to Hitman 2, in which they will hopefully fix many of the gameplay issues that made the original Hitman a mixed bag...

I think they should go with that quote that started out the original Baldur's Gate as a baseline philosophy for the gore. If you rip someone to shreds with a shotgun, or take out an enemy violently even though a simple KO would have worked, then JC should react more to what he is doing. After the first few violent kills, the game would stop and JC would consult himself and his actions in a cinematic. And if you beat the game making copious amounts of chunky salsa of your enemies, than the ending should be affected, and JC would have a totally different personality. Either that of a shattered, and confused soul, or that of a bloodthirsty, sadistic killer.

Yeah, the guys moved around like little worms when you dragged 'em in Hitman. One thing though, the game was a non-sensical monument to bad game design. Let's hope Deus Ex 2 doesn't turn out that way. I personally don't care at all about gore. I like the death animations though. Like in perfect dark for N64 for instance, you shoot a guy in the neck, and he holds his throat and makes a choking noise while slowly falling to the ground. I don't care if any blood is involved in the process, but I like things like that. Or say, a guy gets shot in the arm, he holds his arm. Simple, realistic, and wouldn't detract from the Deus Ex core design philosophy (which is what's most important to me).

Or a bit more serious notion.. but not mutch.. if it was as the one three places up said.. that JC would react on what type of damage he does to the enemy.. when u see a head get blown of.. you probably puke.. is that the point.. add a redneck rampage puke'o'meter.??
