Bodies, bodies, bodies. - by Eberon

Sooo. Bodies.
One idea regarding bodies: I think bodies should be strip-able, and that maybe it should play into the method of searching a body. It's really crappy (kinda) that you can just run past a body and take keys out of the guy's pants whilst running by.
And yeah, that's likely to get me branded as a pervert, but so be it. I really think that bodies should play a better role in the game! In fact, I strongly suggest a system shock 1 style-useful decapitated head ;)

I think the biggest issue with bodies is getting the AI to notice them. As great as DX was (and it was), it is a bit lame that a dead guy is ignored as much as a tree or box.
I'd like to see a somewhat more realistic body searching as well. Something that takes time perhaps; you'd see Denton (or whoever we'll play) searching pockets, boots, etc for stuff.
I'd also like to be able to search a body without picking up a damn pack of cigarettes every time.
Perhaps some sort of clothing-stealing method might be interesting as well (ala Hitman). Of course, that might ruin Denton's magical +3 Cloak of GEP Gun Concealing...

How about being able to search individual bodyparts instead of the whole body? Pants, shirt/jacket, belt, helmet/hat/cap. Maybe even boots and gloves.
This would also add to a stripping-system, since you´d be able to remove single articles of clothing.

Another thing. How about being able to (in the Options menu) check or uncheck certain objects so that JC won´t pick them up in-game?
An Ignore-list might look as follows:
- Heavy Weapons
- Binoculars
and last (but definitely not least)
- Combat Knives
That way, picking up unconcious/dead bodies it wouldn´t be a problem even if they still packed some equipment.
I really, REALLY hate having to let a body lie in plain sight just because my Inventory is full. As if that single Combat Knife really makes any difference. :erg:

Hows this?
U walk up to a body and click it, now ur searching it.
This will show one of the objects it carries, the largest one.
Its shown over the body.
With the mousewheel u can scroll through the things carried by the body.
Click one to place it in ur inventory.
Click "in the air"(not on body or item) to stop searching. Object is no longer shown.
If, while searching, u click on the body, u will pick up the body.
It will still carry any items u have not taken.
Click again to drop the body.
Picking up a body simply means double-clicking it, thus its fast.
Still u will notice its primary weapon etc.
The bodys clothes is shown as one of its carried objects.
If clicked they are put in ur inventory.
This may take more time than taking other objects. Add sound of fabric rustling.
Objects carried by a stripped body will be placed on the ground.
To wear clothes go to inventory screen and click them.
All clothes may not fit u(optional).
If characters have different body types this will decide.
If not, just let 33%(or whatever) fit.
Same goes for body-armour. Im not thinking of DX1 "power-up" type armour.
Rather it works all the time, but only absorbs x hitpoint before breaking.
Be on the lookout for fresh, fitting ones.
Some clothes will be better disguises than others(helmets, facemasks etc.).
Should work fine. And no "pop-up" inventorys of corpses needed.
Thoughts?

I like it. However, I don't like the "bit by bit" search system. Sure, it is realistic, but how fun is it looking into someone's shoes? It'd slow down gameplay a lot.

Just do it like in System Shock 2, works fine, doesn't it?

I agree, the SS2 system works fine, but you couldn't pick up bodies in it couldn't you

Like there aren't enough buttons on the keyboard... :p

It'd slow down gameplay a lot. well, you could toggle that in the game-menu, just as alwaysrun on or off. auto search bodies or one-by-one search, just as in thief 2.
