I can't help with BP (haven't played it), but the developers are currently working on "White Gold" which I think is a sequel (if not in story, then at least in spirit). Given the issues BP had, there's at least potential for WG to be a huge improvement.
(Although personally, I'm more curious about their other work-in-progress, "The Precursors".)
