Sadly, it will come to a point where old classics will no longer be playable...
It makes me sad too :( I miss playing some of my older games. I can only play MechWarrior 2 Mercenaries on a computer with Win98 or less, and I can't seem to play Top Gun at all. I can still play Jill of the Jungle but the sound is screwy.

You can get mid performance (super high performance around 2000) computers for about a grand. A computer that would run it just fine, I would say absolute tops $600. Ebay, you may get a defective computer...But, it's fine if you don't have the money to blow on a new computer, it just really depends on how much you wanna play thief. I reckon you could get a mid performance (for 2000) for around $250 or less.
My secondhand Athlon 1800+ cost us 250€, not counting monitor. My wife's new Sempron 2600+ cost us 350€, not counting monitor or hard drive. Monitors were secondhand 17" ones and cost around 90€ each. Both computers will run last year's games nicely enough; I'd say US$250 would
easily get a computer that would run Thief 2 decently.

You could get a PC capable of playing Thief 1/2 for a lot less than a grand.
A LOT less!! Especially if you know how to build them yourself.
Laptops, on the other hand, are a hex on the computer industry! *spat* I curse all laptops!

The spark for me in playing
Thief is almost gone.
For me the spark comes and goes. I gotta get away from it, and then after several months, I come back with a renewed interest.
