So, saw (
http://store.steampowered.com/app/9960/) this became available on Steam today. Yes, it is a modern-day ver. of the Atari VCS 2600 game "Haunted House". I remember buying that game the day it released and played it until my thumbs fell off.
Anyway, got me thinking about other Halloween-ish games to play this time of year. Some of my recommendations:
Manhunt
Amnesia/Penumbra
Thief
Borderlands DLC (the one with the flaming pumpkins)
Afraid of Monsters for Half-Life
Anyone have anything to add to the list? I am totally in the mood for Halloween/scary-ass games. Thx.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
Will add more as they occur to me :)

Sanitarium.
From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Sanitarium tells the story of a man named Max Laughton who is suffering from amnesia due to a car accident as he frantically tries to unveil the details of his institutionalization inside a bizarre medieval-styled asylum. The search for his own identity - and "the truth" - takes place within the grounds of the sanitarium and inside his own delusions and flashbacks, as he confronts the ghosts of his past. The dark mood and graphics of the game are matched by an equally ominous musical background.
The game uses a bird's-eye view perspective and a non-tiled 2D navigational system. Each world and setting carries a distinct atmosphere that presents either the real world, the imaginary world, or a mix of both of the main protagonist. In many cases, it is unclear to the player if the world the character is currently in is real or a product of Max's own imagination. This indistinction underlines much of the horror portrayed in the game.

Dead Rising 2?
Not necessarily scary per se, but there's thousands of zombies, and you get to play dress-up...
Edit: Oh yeah, and Ghost Master. Awesome game.

Gabriel Knight. the first one, or Quest for Glory IV

I recently played the (
http://gatestoaesgaard2.webs.com/) Gates to Aesgaard mods for Oblivion - they're crawls with barely any story, they seem a bit unbalanced and the pacing is quite off sometimes. However, they do have some very nice(?!) Barkerian gore and hellish landscapes.

I am told Amnesia improves upon it in some aspects, but if you want scary you can't go wrong with (
http://store.steampowered.com/app/22340/) Call Of Cthulu: Dark Corners Of The Earth. Especially the first half of it is excellent; once you get a gun it becomes more of a FPS which diminishes the scary aspect somewhat.

Yes, CoC. And Silent Hill 1, 2, and 3 are mainstays of any Halloween marathon, I should think.
Also, Dead Space, brother. Dead fucking Space.

Oh yes you can.
I played the game, enduring the frustrating, timed chase sequences, the broken stealth, the first-person jumping puzzles etc, waiting for the supposed good parts. And then I got the gun.
