Yeah, we're just going to have to agree to disagree here, because literally nothing in it evokes any reaction in me whatsoever except for boredom. It's called Blands for a reason.

I think it depends on whether you're into the genre or not maybe. I fucking hated Diablo 1/2, but I like a lot of the games that use the same kill/loot/kill/loot feedback cycle (Torchlight, Titan Quest, Van Helsing), and of all of those Borderlands is probably my favorite because of the hand drawn art style, the setting (if Firefly is sci-fi western, this is basically sci-fi redneck), the humor, and the gameplay being FPS rather than iso-clickfest. I can see how it completely bounces off some people, as basically all you're doing is running around killing stuff to try to get better stuff to kill stuff with.

For once Jason and I are in agreement, though I amend that I enjoyed Diablo 1 and double-hated Diablo 2.

I'm with Sulphur, I got bored silly during the first hour or two of BL1 and never went back. I don't see how anyone could say it's the "exact opposite" of what Sulphur said, I thought he was spot on.

The first hour of Borderlands is also awful.

Again Jason is correct. Stick to Thief, Brethren.

Deep games they are not. They're for people who like fart jokes, self-aware humor, and random irony. The humor is very similar to shows like Venture Brothers or Archer.
That said, they did kick it up a notch in BL2. Handsome Jack was easily the best villain of 2012.

Yeah there's fart jokes etc. But there's also a really wonderful setting. It's the atmosphere and area design that sold it to me, even though I'm not automatically enamoured with the shoot+loot gameplay. It's just a really interesting world to be in.
...if you can get through the first hour or so of just shooting the same dogs over and over again.

Agreeing totally with Sulph. The combat is just so unexciting. It feels like just going through the motions of whittling down the healthbars of a series of enemies, then moving on to the next area. And I'll agree that the humor is much like that in Archer. They both have this unearned cocky selfconfidence in how funny they are. Sure, they're both occasionally funny, but nowhere near funny enough to justify the constant smirk with which every terrible little joke is presented.

I don't whittle down healthbars, I incinerate them.
Fart Jokes:
