Everything the devs say about this game makes it seem like a big co-op arcade fest o' fun (they hope).
It's an odd setting for this sort of game but to me it really sounds like a big 3d version of Gauntlet (plus some other things. Apparently Diablo has some similarities; I guess kiilling things, collecting shit and leveling up).

Have you seen the before and after comparisons? The graphics are pretty similar, its just that they aren't cel shaded. Its not like they completely revamped absolutely everything. If the change was very different I might have more sympathy for your pov but the change is subtle yet significant. It's not like changing from a Doom 3 type realistic and gritty darkness to a Zelda Wind Waker cartoon style.

The biggest difference is in the characters. While before they looked fairly realistic ((

They went from stock unrealistic male fps anatomy to a style where people are individuals and you complain?
Or do you have a link to old screenshots that show that the models didn't look like every other fps male?
Yes, the new style is unrealistic as well, but at least it doesn't look like every single fps out there.

You're both splitting hairs now. He's trying to find small concrete elements to factually justify his disappointment, and you're extending his disappointment to gameplay, rather than just style. But the reality is that the trailer, with its bright, light-hearted comic book visuals, balls-to-the-wall action, humourous captions and scenes (dancing robot) gives off an overall very different atmosphere than Stalker, since that was brought up. If what he expected and
wanted was a Stalker lookalike, grim and gritty, then some disappointment isn't unreasonable. The gameplay may well be unchanged, but games are (or should be) more than just that nowadays.
