I do hope that wasn't meant to suggest that FPS/RPG hybrids were something
new.
I don't know. Didn't see anything special in there aside from the cel-shaded graphics, and that doesn't impress me one way or another.

I enjoyed the trailer. But, Jesus, the comments underneath make me weep for the human race. There's even one guy who interpreted "Four-player coop" as "Now I just need to convince four friends to buy this game." Christ.

The Gametrailers user community collective intellect is about on par with that of the Gamefaqs/Gamespot forums.

There are few forums with any collective intelligence tbh. This is one of the few places where, despite opinionated conflict, people at least express an ability to try and reason.
It certainly looks nice but will it get compared to Fallout 3? And would that be a bad thing? I've not played Fallout 3 (or 1 or 2 and I intend to play those before I start 3) so apart from reviews and the positives I hear about all the time I don't have anything to go on. One stupid (vomit inducing) problem I heard about FO3 is that it has a similar enemy level matching to player thing that Oblivion has. This is the main reason I have not and will not play Oblivion. I'm digressing.
Borderlands. Yeah, looks nice. The music in the trailer was spot on too.

Might want to include Fallout Tactics in that list, SubJeff. I'm playing through it again for the 2nd time (I intend to finish it this time- got held up my first playthrough back in 2006 when I got a new computer and suddenly was able to play games like FEAR) and it's a blast. If you like Jagged Alliance or similar games you know what to expect.

Well what you heard was completely wrong. The enemies in FO3 DON'T level up with you at all. If you wander to certain areas you do encounter vastly stronger monsters that can easily dominate the player, especially since Broken Steel added even tougher monsters to the wilderness. You also get Enclave patrols appearing extremely earlier than they did before in the vanilla game, I've read anecdotes of people as low as lvl. 4 getting chased by them.
Actually the problem with FO3 is the opposite, the game is ridiculously easy once you're ~lvl. 20-30, even on the highest difficulty setting.

on vanilla i never had deathclaws outside megaton with low levels, the moment I hit a certain level they suddenly spawned there. Also finishing the Power of Atom very early gives you the Talon Mercs much earlier with much lower hp/armor in vanilla. I installed XFO+MutantsMOD (thanks for the tip) and it plays much better....aka....very hard :) and all enemies seem to have fixed and very high levels no matter where/when you encounter them. But I couldn't replay all of FO3 again, it's too boring and flawed for that. omg, people complained about Stalker being buggy, FO3 is a "major release" and a heap of bugs piled on a mediocre game in an alltime-classic setting.
Matthew on 24/7/2009 at 19:07
I'm not sure I've come across a single bug yet.
mothra on 24/7/2009 at 19:10
i got crashes, ppl talking to ghosts, monsters standing around in the wasteland waiting for some trigger to fire, not to talk about the escorting missions where I had to reload a few times because the scientists got stuck on a coffee mug on the ground and so on ....
june gloom on 24/7/2009 at 19:19
Holy shit mothra, I had one or two bugs (minus the frequent crashes which were later fixed) but nothing like what you're experiencing.
