BAWWWW, NO GRIM DARK, NO SALE.
They likely thought that their game would likely be compared to Fallout 3 and Rage, hence the change in direction to differentiate themselves. How about you wait until the game is ACTUALLY OUT before passing any judgement? Also trailers can be just marketing bullshit, i.e. the Dragon Age ones with Manson advertising it to 13-year-old Xbox owners who jerk off to 300.
GREAT IDEA, I will totally wait until the game comes out before deciding that it has cartoony graphics, and a less-than-serious stylization!
It's not like the trailer shows the graphics engine or gameplay footage or anything. Hell, it could be STALKER 2 for all we know- maybe someone just photoshopped in the cel-shading and damage numbers that pop up with every hit.

What? I'm not allowed to think that something looks like utter shit?
It did.
To me.There's just a bit too much high expressed emotions up in here. If you'd said it looks meh, or boring, or uninspiring, dull, or even just not very good I'd have said nothing. It's "utter" and "shit" that seems a tad extreme. However, given your reply I'm prepared to accept that based on that trailer you really think it looks like utter shit.

goddammit Scots Taffer.

The best part of it was the music and the little dancing robot. The rest was just nehehennenenenneh.
I'll chalk this one up as a maybe. The trailer didn't do too much to inspire my interest, but hey...it could be a boring trailer for what might end up as a good game. Wait and see time.

Personally I liked the trailer. The little one-line splash screens made me think of game trailers of old.
catbarf is being whiney. What the fuck, so it's cel-shaded, what's the fucking problem with that? You remind me of the idiots who complained about TF2 looking like Pixar. Then it actually came out and they love it.
Gearbox said this game requires no loading screen once you start it up- if that means it's an open world, I'm sold.

Could someone see screenshots of TF2 and assume that it's an ultra-serious tactical FPS? I don't care about the fact that it's cel-shaded graphics-wise, it's just that the cel-shading plus on-screen text make it obvious that it's not trying to be an atmospheric shooter.

And?

And?
And while I would happily fork out full price for a serious open-world, atmospheric shooter like STALKER, I would not be so ready with another game. It'll have to be very good to justify the price.
june gloom on 25/7/2009 at 21:28
And how do you know that it won't be atmospheric? Because it has cell-shading? That's dumb.

Because I find it very hard to imagine a game like STALKER with enormous text yelling LEVEL UP! and numbers popping up to show damage inflicted on enemies. Not to mention that making a game look like a comic puts it at odds with realism.
