DUUUUURRRRRRRR HURRRRRRRR Just because you don't like a certain aesthetic (I saw your post before you edited it to cover your ass, btw) doesn't make it intrinsically
bad. HUUUUUURRRRRRR DUUUUUUURRRRRR
He never said it did. He just said he isn't interested anymore because it's not what he was expecting. I can't say I loved the 180 degree style twist myself.

Except he hasn't said that at all.
To judge a game largely on its art direction is ridiculous. What is even more pertinent is the fact that this particular game had its art direction completely change mid develoment. If one was to decide it had gone from potential buy to a no no based on that alone one might just be quite the dullard tbh.
You think? I'm indifferent on the game itself, but drastic right turns in direction in the middle of development are typically signs of a lack of vision on the creative team.
Or rather, if you're gonna have your art department go from semi-realistic to cartoon halfway through development, you're an indecisive fuck who shouldn't be running a hot-dog stand, much less multimillion dollar game project.

Exactly. That's why I am pointing it out - personal taste is ALL this argument is about. So cat and deth should stop dressing it in pretty useless semantics, spectacularly missing the actual point, and just drop it.

I don't even really care about the game one way or another. I liked the trailer but that doesn't mean the game is a must-buy. I'm just calling him out because I'm so tired of this "wah the art direction sucks THIS IS IMPEDING ON MY LIFE" silliness.

oh are we talking art direction because the content of that trailer sucked ass
on an aside, I wish they followed up X17 or whatever it was called - THAT was cel-shaded awesomeness.

XIII? Yeah, it is actually a decent game. Has some pretty intense firefights with some stealth woven in here and there. One TOUGH end-boss fight (mongoose) as well.

I
don't mind the art itself, I
do mind the intrinsic style change demonstrated in the trailer, partly by the art.
Re-read my post until you can recognize the difference.I think the art is creative and different from most shooters. But the game's style does not look like what it used to be. My personal choice is based on style, not art. The style is not what I expected. Therefore I am not as willing to buy the game. This is not a difficult concept.

I was commenting on the fact that you're going apeshit on anyone who dares suggest that they don't like cel-shading. Personally, I don't mind, as I own and love both TF2 and XIII. Because those are games that look like comic books and FEEL like comic books- the art direction speaks volumes about their styles. Are you understanding this yet?

How hard is it for you to understand that you are judging the game based on some preconcieved notion that the change in art direction automatically means a change in style? Which is dumb, which I believe we've gone over.

Because the art direction is a part of the style. Having text popping up to announce every hit is part of the style. Having cel-shading is part of the style. The game's art and interface are as much part of the style as the gameplay. I find it extremely unlikely that the game will have an atmospheric, moody style from what I've seen of it, and the trailer sure doesn't dispel my suspicions.
The first screenshots showed off gritty realism, the newest trailer shows a cartoony approach, and the developers have specifically admitted that the style of the game shifted. That's plenty enough evidence.
