I don't suppose there's a way to play Doom 64 on the PC?
Because it was pretty good.

Whoa hey now.
There are always emulators, too, but no mouse in an fps is way too much trouble for me since I tried not using only the keyboard to play Duke3d bazzilion years ago.

Fuck using the keys to look around.
Seriously.

I would start with Doom 1 for the following reasons, IMO of course:
It has better art direction. The textures are more varied, the music is MUCH better, and the levels were more interesting too. Doom 2 had too many textures that looked the same, using the same color pallet wherever you went. Besides, you should always start a game series from the beginning.
Doom 3 was great, regardless of what some people will tell you. I wasn't expecting the "best game ever". I just wanted a fun run-through of a haunted house where some mapper didn't sit there clicking copy/paste over and over again (like in some Halo levels).
Don't forget to check out The Dark Mod!
Probably the worst piece of Doom music is Map 10 from Doom 2. On the other hand, some of the best would be map 18 from Doom 2 and the "episode complete" screen from Doom 1.

WRONG! YOU'RE ALL WRONG! The coolest people in the world know the (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3srFl3KohE) PS1 version has the best soundtrack of all the Dooms. Doom64 pulls in a close second with its creepy not-soundtrack, and the PC version trails with a distant third.
This is the truth. It's scientifical fact.

You guys know that Doom has always allowed you to use the mouse to control the view, right? The manual even suggests that it's the superior control scheme. I was just referring to turning off the Z-axis, not using the keyboard only.
Yes but IIRC, in Doom, moving the mouse forward made you run forward and moving backward made you run backwards. That sucked, frankly, I'd have preferred if the Y-axis did nothing. Maybe if I had found a way to turn that off (
is there a way to turn that off?), I would have used the mouse in Doom.

Step one. go to your steamapps/common folder and copy the .wad files into a new location you can get to.
No need to. Apparently, GZDoom detects my Steam WADs automatically, didn't need to do a thing :D
Also, I'm really amazed how fucking awesome the Doom engine is (not GZDoom, the original) for the day it was made. I mean (semi)dynamic lighting in (almost) fully 3D environments? Holy crap. ID knows its shit.

You'll have a nervous breakdown if you ever play System Shock then.
