Damn shame to see that DMCA abuse is still being committed even after the backlash against VenomFangX. Still, the situation got sorted fairly rapidly once Thunderf00t worked to get the videos restored. Most of what happened after that were legal actions against VFX. It probably doesn't take much time or effort for potholer54 to get Youtube staff to review the DMCA claim against his videos, and they'll probably be back up pretty soon.
Unfortunately, Title II of the DMCA basically necessitated Youtube's policy of prompt removal of videos upon receiving an infringement claim -- to do otherwise would violate the expectations placed on it as a "safe harbor" OSP, which might lead to Youtube itself potentially being prosecuted for copyright infringement perpetrated by the service's users. Fortunately that same section of the DMCA provides for the counter-notification system Thunderf00t made use of to get his videos back up.
Yeah, the DMCA is a tedious thing like that. One aspect of the VFX saga that was funny was the end part where you have Thunderfoot and DPRJones making videos telling people to leave him alone now he got beat up so bad. It can be hard to call off a swarm of angry nerds.
He's back now too. Hasn't changed much. He was on The Magic Sandwich Show for about five hours a few weeks ago where they had a cheerful yet spirited debate about the existence of god and all that and Aaron Ra gets all riled up. It's pretty funny if you like that sort of thing. He's still an arch biblical literalist though.
Speaking of which, apparently Potholer and Amenakin are talking and even planning on making a video about it all. She took down her book review video, seemingly because she's thought better of it. (And she should. Harun Yaha is a notorious crank in a lot of circles. But I guess he's cornered the market in evolution books targeted to Muslims).
So that's nice. The kicking one can get from prickly skeptics often just makes people angrier. Potholer is kinda smoother and more measured than most though. I don't think you can file a DMCA claim and take it back without some repurcussions though. It'll be interesting to see what happens there.

While i still could criticize some of what she said in the joint video - i am more inclined focus on the respect gained by publicly omitting that the stuff in his original video was kind of crap. That is something one does not see often.

Yeah, kinda interesting in that they still seem to basically disagree. It'll be interesting to see how the legal biz plays out.
You can tell potholer is kinda detached from the whole youtube scene (and wisely so). An excuse for people to heap shit on a muslim woman? Always going to be a big hit with some people. Lots of people actually. It kinda makes criticising Islam more difficult actually.
Thunderfoot had some battles there which are interesting. It's pretty obvious he doesn't like Islam at all. He doesn't like any religion, but that gets magnified passing through typical white western nervousness (hey it bugs me a bit too, what can I say). His problem is when he strays into non science areas like politics and social matters, he struggles a bit and if you aren't really careful and know your shit you're basically standing a little too close to some genuine neo-nazi pricks without really meaning to. There comes a point where holding free speech and anti censorship etc absolute ends up being counter productive. The whole things is way too emotive for that (and saying "yeah well, you should be rational instead" and claiming the high ground stills leaves the conflagration to be dealt with). So potholer's upfront thing against the bigots, a sort of "Sorry guys. It might looks like I'm on your team, but I'm not" is probably wise and brings something different to the whole scene.

I guess it was inevitable that someone in there would notice they were taking legal decisions themselves and that could go badly for them.
It's funny that they'd take that line in the first place. Although since I've been dealing with city councils lately over parking tickets I don't wonder if all largish institutions just make smackdown statements with no regard for law and right all the time, assuming that people won't challenge them on it because the law is obscure and scary.
