I think that the members of the Thief community has to encourage this, and not moan about it. If possible also give some help, but important is that you support it.
thank you.

which one?
either would be fine with me. Stills from the olde worlde style one would probably be the most crowd pleasing though.

I'll make sure I'll do that then.

Some things I've learned in my (
http://thirdfilms.com/atp) personal quest to make a thief film a few years back that would be good for you to heed in your endevours.
Go Episodic-If you really wanted to release something that people would like to see and would continuously come back for more of, go episodic. You can create new stories quickly, release more consistently, and have time to really develop ideas and characters. It's also
excellent training for writing entertainment pieces in the real world, as you have to do a lot more in less time.
Don't be afraid to create new characters -It can give you the freedom to write more intelligent stories with characters that are more honest and interesting than the mostly 2d characters from the games.
on that same note...
Don't be afraid to come up with a new story-The stories in the thief games only worked because it was made for a game. Much of what actually progressed the story was the character slowly sneaking around for hours. That seems like one bland movie if you ask me. Make somethign new, with more action and character development.
It's gonna be a lot of sacrifice-Be prepared to work long hours for no pay for absolutely no return, remember, Eidos/Warner Bros/SCi owns the rights to the game world and ALL it's characters. They could stop you from ever showing or making money from your work with a snap of a lawyers greasy little fingers. This, and the knowledge that it would take me three years or more to make my film, were what made me stall and then cancel my own project.
So have I scared the crap out of you? Good. If you still want to make a thief series/feature, go ahead; I heartily encourage you to, just don't think it's going to be a walk in the park.

I'm completely on the same page as you. Don't worry, I'm not walking into this with a light hearted attitude and not knowing what's coming. After I do a "visual" short(to show the community that it can be done-to get people excited and involved), then we'll be able to delve into some of the things you brought up. Thanks for your advice and support, I appreciate it.

Ive been thinking about doing a short fan film recently... Im confident i could copy the cutscene style exactly, maybe improve on it slightly with some good artists/actors etc.
Making a more filmic version is also something im wanting to do but of course it would be a bigger project. I was thinking i could possibly get good locations in the UK, some old villages and possibly mix in some industry with some compositing, maybe make friends with a group of people who re-enact old battles and already have the medievil costumes.... :) As for story something simple would obviously be needed, i think a feature would be a big step for an amateur (and very time consuming!).

I'm glad there's another who is interested in this concept. The things your bringing up seem very daunting. But the passion is there, and that counts.

Props are being gathered. Locations are scouted. Actors are found. There is still some prep work. It looks like the filming will be done by the end of Feb.

Have you a script yet?
This is probably going to sound arsey but in order for this to actually be good what you should do is totally scrap the Garrett storyline altogether, create your own character, and make a film about that character instead of a film around a computer game.

I agree with a lot your saying. But this little short is just a visual short to show the community that it can be done, to get the community excited about it, to get more people involved for a larger project. This will basically be a glorified versioin of the intros to the games with a little plot to give reason to the action. Trust me when I say this, it will be descent. It will not be another shitty outcome from amatures who don't know what they are doing. If we can prove that visually it's possible, then hopefully people will get involved beause doing it will be a reality and not a hopeless idea.
