That's got to be one of the most superfluous subtitles ever.
I was pretty skeptical about this game when I first heard about it. Starbreeze making something that isn't a first person shooter? And Swedish writer-director Josef Fares is involved? I've seen a few of the guy's movies, they're good romantic comedies and (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdYETf1SP2c&feature=player_detailpage#t=63) action-movie parodies, but I've never seen or heard anything from him to suggest he knows his way around classic adventure or videogames. Turns out my doubts were unfounded, Brothers is fantastic.
It's a "single-player co-op game". You use one thumbstick and one trigger to control each of the brothers. The Steam page says it requires a controller to play but there are customizable keyboard controls as well, gamepad works better tho. It's an adventure game, but not in the usual RPG or hack-n-slash videogame-mold, instead it's closer to the old H.C. Andersen or Brothers Grimm tales where the heroes use their wits to outsmart the trolls and monsters of the world. And though it may look cute and family friendly in the screenshots, they've not left out the "grim" part of Grimm. The opening cutscene for instance has the boys' mother drowning before the eyes of the younger son, who is unable to save her and is, as a result, terrified of going in the water for the rest of the game.
I haven't finished it yet, it's a bargain title though, so I don't think it'll be very long. I don't need to have finished it to wholeheartedly recommend it though. Buy this one! :thumb:

Totalbiscuit called it possibly the finest gaming experience of his life.
It caused him a sniff or two and that can cause overrating (see: Titanic), but for a generally mechanically driven gamer not terribly interested in story and character usually, I think its notable for attracting such praise from him.

I'm not gonna praise it that highly. One of the finest gaming experiences of the year for certain though. It's just so completely perfect in it's design. Everything just feels natural and the story, setting and gameplay all gel together perfectly.
I just played the last bit of it. It's over, and I can't believe how it ended. I can not believe how it ended.
It might be a fairytale, but it sure as hell doesn't have a fairytale ending. :(

I've been growing increasingly interested in this, especially after the mad ravings of Total Biscuit (whom I don't always agree with but somewhat respect). Definitely keeping an eye on this when steam sale comes around.

I just finished the game and I must say it does something quite ingenious at the end. Ending spoilers following, do not read until you've finished the game. Seriously.
When the older brother dies, his absence becomes even more poignant as your left hand suddenly isn't used any more. I can't remember if I ever played a game where the controls underlined the story in a similar way.
Consider this another recommendation. Just make sure you play it on a controller.

They were working on a better keyboard implementation, from memory. I was kinda waiting for that to get done. Although they said they were doing a lot of community consultation because it's hard to figure out the right way. So maybe it'll never work.
