I've been playing Doom since '94 and I totally want to play this too, so don't worry. dethy isnt the arbiter of... well... anything.

And seriously, taking a dig at Bulletstorm for being childish? Whatever, man. Matter of taste perhaps, but you're missing the point entirely.
Yes, it's crass in a rebellious, uncensored teenage sort of way, but it knows not to take itself very seriously. Despite the ridiculous skillshot captions and cringeworthy one-liners, its handling of the story and its characters is pretty measured except for the big ol' scenery chewing sleazy cheesebucket that is the villain -- but he's even more of a caricature than the protagonist.
It's basically a pinata party with ludicrous weapons, a corny over-arching story to justify it, and hilariously bad taste. Ducky would be proud.

No shit Sherlock but some things are just objectively stupid. lost_soul is one of them, this mod is another.

Yeah,
Bulletstorm is fantastic and the story is legitimately good. I mean, it's not
The Brothers Karamazov or anything but it is one of the few games that, out of the many that try, actually succeeds at creating a compelling 'action movie' story. Characters have believable, within the gonzo universe the game takes place in, and consistent motivations that are, and this is a
massive rarity in games writing, actually followed through on. Its balance between tongue-in-cheek drama and genuine drama is spot-on and even it's use of vulgarity* is measured. Firstly, it's not constant and not everyone is vulgar (Ichi very rarely uses profanity and his humour is of the dry variety) and those who are, are in a way consistent with their character (Grayson's profanity is mostly harmless, adolescent crudity whereas the General is a vile, toxic arsehole whose invective is loaded with malice).
Regarding the 'cringeworthy one-liners', it's worth noting that some of Grayson's jokes are supposed to be bad and groan inducing. He's simply the kind of guy who makes bad jokes; something that does not go unnoticed by other characters.
* Note: there is an option in the menu to turn the profanity off. Now, this doesn't just bleep out the naughty words but completely replaces all the offensive dialog with lines written and recorded especially for a clean version. It's something I only found out about a few months ago (the developers have gone on record as saying that it was a mistake to hide the option away like that) and I haven't had a chance to take a look at it yet but that sounds pretty cool.

Hey now. Bulletstorm is actually a pretty good game. Not $50-$60 good, but it is worth playing through. It's the most original twitch shooter I've played in a long time. Shame that the story and dialog are so cliche though. I do hope it gets a spiritual sequel someday.
