There are the “Makmdb.exe” and the "MotEdit.exe" Windows executables, and there are "build_motion_database", "motedit", and "save_motion_database" DromEd commands. If I was to rebuild my motion database after adding some new motions into my MSchema and Motions directories, which should I use?

Indeed, a tutorial for the whole procedure would be helpful. I had the idea to make one for an AI carrying a torch ... :erg:

Thanks. I missed that. So the steps are:
1. Have all your motion files in ...\ThiefDromedingRoot\Motions (.mi and .mc files, extracted the contents of RES\motions.crf into here)
2. Have all your motion schema files in ...\ThiefDromedingRoot\MSchema (.mos files + tags.moc + groups.moc + torsos.moc from Shadowspawn site & any new ones)
2a. Update tags.moc by adding tags (corresponding to the new motions in the ...\Motions subdirectory) to the bottom of it
3. Have Makmdb.exe in your ...\ThiefDromedingRoot (modified date: 11/21/2003 6:51 PM; file size: 65,536 --- is this the most recent?)
4. When all the motion and motion schema files are correct and in their appropriate folders, run Makmdb.exe
Hmm. That didn't seem to work right. My new motion database (Nmotiondb.bin) is 15KB :weird: and my old motion database (motiondb.bin) is 282KB. Any suggestions other than blowing away the Motions and MSchema directories and trying again?
I think I fixed it. I had thought that the GMDB included all the OM motions in it, but it doesn't :tsktsk:, so I had to add in all the contents of motions.crf, not overwriting the GMDB changed files. At least the files size is now more reasonable (387KB). At least I assume that's reasonable. :erg:

My copy of makdb has the same properties as yours, and my current motiondb is 385kB.

Mine is also 387k with a few motions added above what's in GMDB.

That sounds odd. My motiondb is 290KB with 35 new added motions. Am i doing something wrong?
I have all motions in motions folder and motion schemas in Mschema folder when i build it (like one should have?) and it gives me that size.

Well, the GMDB motiondb.bin which you can download from (
http://www.angelfire.com/games4/shadowspawn/Tools.html) Shadowspawn's site is 393,699 KB. So if you started from the GMDB, I would think there might be a problem. On the other hand, if you didn't include all the GMDB motions, you could be OK.

That's that then. All is well i suppose.
