My impression is that it was a regular sword (accounting for the size), except with nanites on the blade (accounting for the glow).

Loophole! Weve found a loophole. Either way, it was enough fun just to bring out the Dragons Tooth just to feel the power of it. Ya know?

It was a blatant lightsaber rip-off, but it was a fun one. Perhaps the size issue is to do with not actual space but possible space.
Think of it this way, JC has to cram so many valuable items of equipment under his coat and then he finds this sword that extends - he places it in his inventory but leaves enough space so that if it accidentally extended in the middle of a fight or something it wouldn't cut through all his lockpicks or embed itself in his shotgun or whatever... Our JC, always thinking ahead.

Probably more to do with balancing than anything else, I mean, let's face it, the Dragons Tooth was a pretty awesome melee weapon - making it occupy only 2 slots in your inventory would be out of place in a game where the design dictates power or convinience, and then puts the choice to the player.

What they shoulda done, is make a kinda emiting blade. lke a pole extending out and making it the size of a word. then when you turn i on, the pole-thing emits the balde. still a kewl nano wepon (with the glowing bladE) but makes sens for it to take up 4 spaces (not five)

A found that the regular metal sword occupied less inventory space and had better chopping power against everything. I now always dump the nano sword at Tong's place and forget about it. A regular sword or combat knife is usually sufficient for breaking crates. Sometimes I use a baton for crates (takes less space than a sword).

I always drop the Dragon Sword right after I pick it up at Maggie Chow's.
I don't know of any real reason to carry it unless I'm playing low tech ninja-style.
But I agree that hacking people to death does have a certain appeal. <IMG SRC="devil.gif" border="0">
